David Beckham will remain with AC Milan until the end of the Italian season after striking a deal to delay his return to Los Angeles Galaxy.

Beckham, 33, will now stay in Serie A before returning to America in July for the second half of the MLS season.

He will then return to Milan in November at the end of the American season in order to play a second year in Italy.

His original loan deal was due to expire on March 9 but, after making an impressive start to life with the Rossoneri, the former England captain was keen to stay in Italy.

Reports suggest Beckham has agreed a salary cut and has partially funded the move himself in order to stay with Milan.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have rubbished betting rumours linking them with a £100million summer bid for Barcelona's Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi.

A report in The Sun newspaper suggested that the Citizens had made Messi their top transfer target, but the Premier League club have robustly denied such talk and demanded a retraction.

Chelsea and England left-back Ashley Cole has issued an apology for his behaviour after he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The 28-year-old was arrested outside The Collection nightclub in South Kensington, before being taken to a police station to sober up and handed an £80 fixed penalty notice.

In Spain, Valencia have re-iterated that their financial future is still in the balance and newly-appointed chief executive Javier Gomez has admitted that star players such as David Villa and David Silva may have to be sold.

Brawn GP will be the new name on the Formula One grid next season, with the former Honda team having officially rejoined the circus.

Ex-Honda supremo Ross Brawn has led the buy-out of the team following Honda's decision to quit the sport, with Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello continuing as the two drivers for next season.

In cricket, Essex's former England wicketkeeper James Foster has signed a contract extension to keep him at the county until the end of the summer of 2011.

Meanwhile, paceman Imran Arif has been cleared to play for Worcestershire again next season after being awarded a British passport.

The 25-year-old impressed at New Road during the second half of last season, but needed to register as a domestic player to fulfil a two-year contract, with Ashley Noffke signed up as the county's overseas star.

In rugby union, England Saxons prop David Wilson will swap Newcastle Falcons for Bath at the end of the current Guinness Premiership season.

Wilson, 24, has agreed a two-year contract at the Recreation Ground and is moving on after struggling to displace first-choice prop Carl Hayman.

Bath were on the lookout for a new prop following Matt Stevens' two-year ban and subsequent resignation after testing positive for cocaine.
