Bangalore Royal Challengers kept alive their hopes of making the Indian Premier League semi-finals by beating table-toppers and cricket betting favourites Delhi Daredevils.

The Daredevils made 134-7 from their 20 overs after opting to bat first at the New Wanderers in Johannesburg, with Praveen Kumar impressing in taking 3-30 from his four overs.

In reply, the Royal Challengers reached their victory target with an over to spare, with Jacques Kallis their linchpin with an unbeaten 58 from 56 balls faced.

All three scheduled matches in the Friends Provident Trophy were affected by heavy rain sweeping the country.

Glamorgan's clash with Northamptonshire at Swansea was washed out completely.

Nottinghamshire beat Leicestershire by nine runs at Grace Road under the Duckworth-Lewis method, with the visitors failing to chase down a revised target of 76 in ten overs.

Surrey beat Sussex by 79 runs at The Oval, again under the Duckworth-Lewis method, after Mark Ramprakash smashed a superb century for the home side.

Surrey's inning eventually closed on 241-7 after 39 overs, before Sussex were bowled out for 162 in 30 overs, with leg-spinner Chris Schofield taking 5-32 to ensure victory.

There were a number of shocks at tennis' Austrian Open, with fourth seed Fabrice Santoro, sixth seed Marc Gicquel and eighth seed Dudi Sela all crashing out in the first round.

However, home favourite Jurgen Melzer made no mistake as he swept aside Portugal's Fernando Gil 6-3, 6-0 to reach round two.

Italy's Danilo Di Luca extended his lead in the Giro d'Italia to ten seconds by clinching victory in the tenth stage of the race.

Di Luca, who also won the Giro in 2007, leads the way from compatriot Franco Pellizotti, with Russia's Denis Menchov in third place.
