Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp believes he has the most lethal finisher in the Premier League after Jermain Defoe bagged five goals in Sunday's 9-1 demolition of Wigan Athletic.

England striker Defoe and Spurs inflicted a heaviest ever league defeat on the Latics at White Hart Lane.

"He's an amazing finisher. Wayne Rooney's fantastic - a complete all-round player - but as a finisher, Defoe is the best out there," hailed Redknapp.

"I'm sure he'll go to the World Cup. Fabio will see the goals he's scored."

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has decided not to include Fernando Torres in his squad for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Debrecen.

The Spain international will not be risked in Hungary as the online betting favourite Reds attempt to keep their wafer-thin hopes of reaching the last 16 of the competition intact.

However, Benitez hopes Torres will have recovered from his hamstring injury in time to feature against Everton on Sunday.

Former Arsenal star Thierry Henry has admitted that he thought about ending his international career in the wake of last week's controversial World Cup play-off against the Republic of Ireland.

The Barcelona striker handled the ball in the build-up to William Gallas' goal which ultimately cost Giovanni Trapattoni's team a place in next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.

Cricket captain Andrew Strauss expects both Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann to be fit for England's third one-day international against South Africa.

Bowling duo Broad (shoulder) and Swann (side strain) were joined on the sidelines by opener Alastair Cook (back) for Sunday's second one-dayer which England won by seven wickets at Centurion Park.

But after taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, Strauss expects to have both Broad and Swann available for the next encounter in Cape Town.

Lee Westwood thought his victory in the Dubai World Championship was the highlight of his career.

The Englishman shot a course record 64 to finish on 23-under-par, six shots clear of second-placed Ross McGowan, to ensure he ended the season as Europe's number one for the second time.

The prize-money of almost £740,000 ensured Westwood clinched the Race to Dubai ahead of Rory McIlroy and he said after his success: "I'm a bit speechless. I played fantastic at the weekend.

"It's as good as I've ever played, especially under this pressure. It gives me so much confidence and it's definitely the biggest moment of my career."

Meanwhile, Mercedes have confirmed that the Williams star Nico Rosberg will be part of their line-up for the 2010 season.

The former Brawn GP team parted company with world champion Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello after winning the 2009 constructors' championship.

Earlier in the month, Williams revealed that Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg will be their drivers next season.
