England dominate day one

England dominated day one of the second Test against West Indies, as Alastair Cook and Ravi Bopara both hit tons.

Leading 1-0 in the two-match series, England named an unchanged eleven from the ten-wicket victory at Lord's last week, while the tourists also stuck with the side beaten in the first Test.

Captain Andrew Strauss was out for 26 shortly before the lunch interval as he feathered a catch to wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin as he attempted to sweep the ball.

But that was virtually the only positive for the tourists all day as Bopara arrived at the crease and reached 108 before being clean bowled by Lionel Baker late in the day.

Left-hander Cook was 126 not out at the close, with nightwatchman James Anderson unbeaten on four and England in a dominant position at 302-2.

England are now strong favourites in the cricket betting odds to win the series by a 2-0 scoreline.

In domestic cricket, Worcestershire were 108-run winners in their Friends Provident Trophy Group A encounter with Hampshire.

Ireland's match against Leicestershire in the same pool was washed out in Dublin, while there was the same outcome in the Group B clash between Somerset and Warwickshire at Taunton.

Middlesex thrashed Scotland by a massive 138 runs in the day's only other game at The Grange.

Rajasthan Royals won by two runs in their Indian Premier League meeting with Mumbai Indians, while Bangalore Royal Challengers edged out Chennai Super Kings by two wickets.

In football, Millwall consigned Leeds United to a third season in League One after winning their play-off semi-final by a 2-1 scoreline.

The Lions led 1-0 on aggregate ahead of the second leg at Elland Road where a 1-1 draw saw Kenny Jackett's side progress to the Wembley final on May 25.

Jimmy Abdou was the hero for Millwall as his 75th minute equaliser cancelled out Luciano Becchio's goal and secured his side's passage.

Leeds had earlier missed a penalty through top scorer Jermaine Beckford.

In tennis, Andy Murray reached the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open following a 7-5 6-1 victory over Spain's Tommy Robredo.

The world number three will face Juan Martin del Potro in Friday's last-eight encounter.

In the other half of the draw, world number one Rafael Nadal faces Fernando Verdasco and Novak Djokovic takes on Ivan Ljubicic.

Francesco Molinari shot a course record nine-under-par 63 in horrendous conditions to lead golf's Irish Open after the first round.

The Italian leads by one shot from Sweden's Johan Edfors at County Louth.
