Matthew, three years younger than his ex-world champion brother, has been tipped to go on an emulate Ricky's achievements.

But who are sport's other famous siblings?

Bobby and Jack Charlton

One played for Manchester United and other for bitter rivals Leeds but they combined to great effect as England won the World Cup in 1966.

Bobby was a cultured midfielder with a thunderous shot while older brother Jack was an uncompromising central defender who learned his trade on the amateur pitches of the north-east.

Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko

Between them the Ukrainian Klitschko brothers have dominated heavyweight boxing for the last five years.

Wladimir currently holds the IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight titles while his brother, Vitali, is the current WBC champion.

Andy and Jamie Murray

Andy is the British number one tennis player and two-time Grand Slam finalist while his younger brother, Jamie, is primarily a doubles player who won the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon in 2007 alongside Jelena Jankovic.

Serena and Venus Williams

Nineteen Grand Slam titles (Serena has won 12 and Venus 7) and counting have been amassed by the record-breaking tennis-playing sisters from California.

Their on-court power has redefined women's tennis since they emerged on the world stage in 1999.

Michael and Ralf Schumacher

Michael is six years Ralf's senior and has eclipsed his younger brother in terms of career achievements.

The seven-time world champion recently returned to Formula One after three years in retirement but the pair remain the only brothers in history to win grand prix races.

They were also the first brothers to finish first and second in the same race, in Montreal in 2001 and again in 2003.

Gary and Phil Neville

Gary and Phil spent 15 years in the same youth and then first teams at Manchester United before the latter was sold on to Everton in 2005.

Gary, who is older by two years, remains an integral part of the Old Trafford furniture as United captain while between them the brothers have won a staggering 144 England caps.
