Fergie sets sights on record

Sir Alex Ferguson immediately turned his attention towards Manchester United becoming the most successful team in English football history after wrapping up the 11th Premier League title of his career.

Saturday's goalless draw with Arsenal saw the Red Devils crowned champions for the 18th time in their history.

The Old Trafford club are now level on title wins with bitter rivals Liverpool and veteran boss Ferguson now wants to overtake the Merseyside club.

With the dust yet to settle on United's 2008/09 triumph, he said: "It'll make it more special when we are in front of them. Next year we are going for it again."

However, one player who might not be at Old Trafford next season is Carlos Tevez, who has accused United of a lack of respect over their handling of his future.

The Argentina striker has conceded he is likely to leave when his two-year loan contract expires at the end of the season.

Elsewhere, Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez does not believe winning the Premier League title means Manchester United are necessarily the best team in England.

After pushing their rivals all the way this season, Benitez does not accept that United have proved themselves to be better than the Reds as he claims his side have eclipsed them at times - and in particular during 4-1 win at Old Trafford last month.

Meanwhile, Guus Hiddink has admitted he has been left exhausted while managing Chelsea this season.

The Dutch coach will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of his short-term contract following the FA Cup Final to return to his other full-time role as the head coach of the Russia national time.

But Hiddink has revealed he was left 'exhausted' by the controversial Champions League semi-final second leg defeat to Barcelona in which referee Tom Henning Ovrebo took centre stage and Andres Iniesta scored a vital away goal in injury time.

In cricket, Andrew Flintoff is not convinced he will be fit enough to take part in England's World Twenty20 campaign next month.

The injury-plagued all-rounder is currently recovering from knee surgery after breaking down during his brief spell in the Indian Premier League last month.

Flintoff had hoped to prove his fitness ahead of the Ashes by playing in the World Twenty20, but he has now conceded that his initial estimate may have been too optimistic.

In Formula One, president Max Mosley is confident that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) will successfully come through court action brought against them by Ferrari.

Ferrari revealed on Friday that it was to seek an injunction against the FIA's controversial plans to shake-up Formula One from the start of next season.

The Italian team - along with Toyota, Red Bull and Renault - has already threatened to end its long association with the sport should plans go ahead to introduce a 40million budget cap in 2010.

Meanwhile, Cambridgeshire-based car company Lola has confirmed that it will be applying for a place in Formula One next season.
