Manager Mark Hughes insists there is no problem between himself and Robinho despite his apparent snub during Manchester City's 3-0 defeat at Tottenham on Wednesday night.

The £32million club record signing walked straight down the tunnel after being substituted on the hour mark at White Hart Lane.

But despite Robinho's decision not to sit on the bench, Hughes claims there is no problem between the pair.

Meanwhile, defender Joleon Lescott is facing up to two months on the sidelines following knee surgery.

The England international is expected to be out of action until February following an operation to clear floating debris from his knee.

Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand has dismissed suggestions that his long-running injury problems could force him to miss next summer's World Cup finals.

Ferdinand has missed United's last 12 games with a calf injury which is linked to his struggles with a back problem during the past 18 months.

But despite the 31-year-old centre-half still being some way off a return for the Red Devils, he has allayed fears that he could miss the World Cup, for which England have been made third favourites in the online betting markets.

After England had won the toss and asked their hosts to bat, the Proteas moved on to 262-4 at the close of play thanks largely to an unbeaten century by Jacques Kallis.

But England failed to make good use of the decision review system, seeing both their requests turned down.

They failed to have an lbw decision against Kallis overturned, before a review of a catch taken by wicketkeeper Matt Prior also ended in South Africa's favour.

Troubled golfer Tiger Woods has been voted 'Athlete of the Decade' in an Associated Press Poll, finishing clear of Lance Armstrong and Roger Federer.

Woods received 56 of the 142 votes cast, with more than half of the ballots being returned after last month's car crash at Woods' Florida mansion.

That incident led to a chain of events which resulted in the 33-year-old apologising for 'infidelity' and vowing to be a 'better person'.

Former Toyota driver Kamui Kobayashi has agreed a contract with Sauber for next year.

The 23-year-old made his Formula One debut with Toyota at the Brazilian Grand Prix in October, finishing tenth, before impressing at the final race of the season at Abu Dhabi when he claimed three points with sixth spot.
