Injured Scotland trio Thom Evans, Chris Paterson and Rory Lamont have all been ruled out of the rest of this season's Six Nations campaign.

Winger Evans underwent neck surgery after being stretchered off during the 31-24 defeat to Wales, full-back Paterson suffered kidney damage that is expected to sideline him for up to ten weeks, while winger Lamont picked up a medial ligament injury.

After losing to France at Murrayfield last Sunday, Scotland looked set to secure a famous victory at the Millennium Stadium until they conceded 17 points in the last five minutes to hand victory to the Welsh.

In rugby league, Castleford Tigers back-rower Dean Widders looks set to be sidelined for up to six weeks after injuring a knee during Saturday's disappointing Super League defeat to Warrington Wolves.

The 30-year-old will have to have surgery on the knee he injured during the 28-16 loss at The Jungle.

In cricket, Alastair Cook believes English cricket could profit from a football-style rotation policy following Andrew Strauss' decision to miss the forthcoming tour to Bangladesh.

Strauss has passed the captaincy to the 25-year-old for the trip, with England facing a hectic schedule in 2010 that includes the World Twenty20, two home series and an Ashes tour.

Cook would like to be aided by a vice-captain for the Tests in Chittagong and Mirpur in March that England are the online favourites to win, and hasn't ruled out the possibility of handing Kevin Pietersen the role.

In football, Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that he may play for Manchester United again one day.

The 25-year-old departed for Real Madrid in a world record £80million deal last summer after six seasons at Old Trafford during which time he won three Premier League titles and a Champions League crown.

Ronaldo joined United for £12.24million from Sporting Lisbon when he was just 18.

Finally, Robin van Persie has revealed that four teams - believed to be Chelsea, Manchester City, Juventus and Internazionale - had tried to sign him but he is committed to Arsenal.

The Netherlands international has been sidelined since November with an ankle injury he picked up while representing his country.
