Kaka will be playing in Spain next season after finalising his £59million transfer from AC Milan to Real Madrid.

Real, whose betting odds for next season's Champions League have been slashed following confirmation of the calibre of the player they are attempting to sign, secured the Brazil midfielder on a six-year contract on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Real president Florentino Perez is set to redouble his efforts to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

Despite suggesting last week that he would not jeopardise his relationship with United to sign Ronaldo, Perez has now admitted that the reigning World and European Footballer of the Year is his new transfer target.

Elsewhere, England's World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Wednesday will go ahead as planned despite the threat of strike action on the London Underground.

There were reports that a planned 48-hour strike on the tube would either result in the game being postponed or force it to be played behind closed doors.

However, the Football Association insists the game will go ahead as scheduled, although they have advised the 70,000 fans who have bought tickets to ensure they set off to Wembley early.

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has rejected reports that he has offered Michael Owen a two-year contract to join the Midlands club.

Owen is expected to leave Newcastle United when his contract expires next month following the club's relegation to the Championship.

But O'Neill has dismissed suggestions that Villa is his likely destination on a deal worth a reported £3million per season.

In cricket, England ace Kevin Pietersen is adamant that he will play on through injury to feature in this summer's Ashes series.

The 28-year-old batsman continues to be troubled by an Achilles injury which is hampering him at the ICC World Twenty20.

Leigh Halfpenny will miss Wednesday's British & Irish Lions warm-up game against the Sharks after aggravating a thigh injury.

The Wales wing missed the opening week of the tour with a thigh injury but looked to have staked a claim for a place in the Test side after making an appearance in the victory over the Cheetahs on Saturday.

However, the 20-year-old reported discomfort in the same thigh towards the end of a training session on Monday and has been pulled out of the side to face the Sharks as a precaution.

In tennis, Rafael Nadal has pledged to do all he can to be fit enough to defend his Wimbledon title.

The world number one has pulled out of Queen's this week with a knee problem, but is keeping his fingers crossed that he can defend the grass court title he won 12 months ago.
