Leeds target winning start

Saturday August 8 will mark the start of the new League One campaign and with teams like Leeds United, Norwich City and Southampton in the mix, many clubs have the chance to pit their wits against some former Premier League giants.

The first games of the new season will give supporters the chance to see if the hard work in pre-season has paid dividends.

Brighton v Walsall - The Seagulls will be looking to get their campaign off to a good start after spending during the summer. Players like James Tunnicliffe and Gary Dicker will be looking to impress and sharp-shooter Glenn Murray will be aiming to be in the goals again. Walsall will be hoping Clayton Ince can help inspire them from the goal and get their own campaign off to a positive start.

Bristol Rovers v Leyton Orient - The Pirates will be relying on top scorer Rickie Lambert to help improve on last seasons average finish, while Orient will be buoyed by their 6-1 friendly success against Newcastle and they themselves will be asking Scott McGleish to hit the target.

Carlisle v Brentford - It's difficult to see where Carlisle's goals will come from after losing both Michael Bridges and Danny Graham in the summer. Brentford will still be on a high from their promotion from League Two and could cause the hosts some problems.

Charlton v Wycombe - The relegated Addicks will want to set off on the right foot against newly promoted Wycombe at The Valley and they should have enough quality to overturn their fellow League One newcomers.

Gillingham v Swindon - The newly promoted Gills have an opening day start where they could claim a victory. Home advantage could be key and they'll be hoping the buzz will still be around the place after their League Two play-off win last term. Swindon will be calling on Lee Peacock and Billy Paynter to offer the main goal threat.

Leeds United v Exeter City - The Grecians take a step into the Elland Road cauldron on the opening day. Sportsbook favourites Leeds need to get off to a flying start and the pressure will be on. On the contrary, Exeter will enjoy there day and the contrast in expectancy could make for an interesting game.

MK Dons v Hartlepool - The home side will be hurting from their play-off defeat and will be favourites for this game while Hartlepool will be looking to consolidate after a poor end to last season.

Norwich City v Colchester United - The Canaries will be able to parade their summer signings in front of a big Carrow Road crowd. They will be expecting to bounce straight back to the Championship but don't expect the U's to roll over.

Oldham v Stockport - The two local rivals will be thirsty for opening day bragging rights. Oldham will be rightly confident going into the game with County being earmarked as this seasons League One whipping boys. Time will tell.

Southampton v Millwall - The Saints will be looking to wipe off some of the points penalty at the first opportunity. They will fancy their chances but Millwall will not roll over as they aim to go one better than the play-off final they lost in last season.

Southend v Huddersfield - An intriguing looking contest, with the ambitious Terriers making plenty of pre-season signings. Lee Clark will be looking to get his side off to the best possible start. Steve Tilson will be hoping the Roots Hall faithful shout his side to an opening day success and former Spurs striker Lee Barnard will be the main threat.

Yeovil v Tranmere - John Barnes will take charge of his Tranmere side for the first time in a competitive fixture and he will not be used to such compact venues as Huish Park. The home side will look to start on a positive note after a poor start last season.
