Tiger Woods has admitted that he is worried about the reception he will receive when he takes part in next month's Masters at Augusta, his first tournament in almost five months.

The 34-year-old world number one has been receiving treatment at a rehab clinic after admitting to multiple extra-marital affairs.

He said: "I don't know (about the reception I'll get), I'm a little nervous. It would be nice to hear a couple of claps here and there.

"I was doing a lot of things that hurt a lot of people. When you strip away denial and rationalisation you start coming to the truth of who you really are and that can be very ugly.

"But then again, when you face it and you start conquering it and you start living up to it, the strength that I feel now, I've never felt that type of strength."

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson remains confident that his side can see off Chelsea and Arsenal to retain their Premier League crown.

Ferguson was in upbeat mood following a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford, with goals from Wayne Rooney and Ji-Sung Park enough to take United back to the top of the table - two points clear of Arsenal and four clear of Chelsea.

He commented: "We have a very experienced back four and a very experienced goalkeeper. That gives us a real outstanding chance.

"There are seven difficult matches, but we have all got difficult matches, so what does it matter?

"No-one is going away. We are all knocking on doors. If you look at the run-ins for the teams, it could very well go to the wire."

Arsenal's Dutch striker Robin van Persie is still upbeat about his chances of returning to action this season, as he continues his recovery from a serious ankle injury.

The 26-year-old has not featured for the Gunners since early November and an operation was expected to see him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

However, van Persie told Studio Voetbal: "I still hope I can take part in the final phase of the league and hopefully the Champions League. This has been my goal from the beginning."

Manchester City head coach Roberto Mancini has dismissed rumours linking him with a return to Italy to take charge of Juventus.

The Italian commented: "I am honoured that my name has been linked to that of Juventus, but there is no truth at all."

Northampton completed the first leg of a possible dream trophy treble after edging out Gloucester 30-24 in the LV Cup Final on Sunday.

The Saints are still in the hunt for Guinness Premiership and Heineken Cup glory this season and were fully tested by Gloucester at Worcester's Sixways before emerging victorious.

Meanwhile, former rugby league star Lesley Vainikolo has agreed a new two-year contract with Gloucester.
