Manchester City's Shaun Wright-Phillips is the latest player to be ruled out of England's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers through injury.

The midfielder will miss next month's double-header against Kazakhstan and Andorra after being told he requires surgery on a knee problem.

Meanwhile, FA Cup finalists Everton have secured the services of Phil Jagielka and Joseph Yobo for the next five years after agreeing new contracts with the defensive duo.

Jagielka, who was named the Toffees' player of the season earlier in the week, and Yobo are both now contracted to the club until summer 2014.

The Football Association has confirmed that Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will not face action over the alleged spitting incident in March's FA Cup clash with Hull City after two charges of improper conduct were not proved.

Meanwhile, Britain's leading woman Anne Keothavong has been handed the toughest draw possible after being paired with world number one Dinara Safina.
