Russia international Diniyar Bilyaletdinov has completed his transfer from Lokomotiv Moscow to Everton for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has penned a five-year contract with David Moyes' side but will be ineligible for Thursday's Europa League play-off second leg against Sigma Olomouc as Everton, who are one of the online favourites to win the competition, missed UEFA's registration deadline.

Bilyaletdinov can play on the left wing, in the centre of midfield or in his most comfortable position, just behind the strikers.

Meanwhile, Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of Wednesday's Champions League encounter with Celtic at the Emirates Stadium with a hamstring strain.

The Spain international picked up the problem in Saturday's 4-1 victory against Portsmouth when he was substituted at half-time.

Fabregas had a scan on the injured muscle on Tuesday morning which Gunners boss Arsene Wenger revealed had been 'reassuring'.

Hull City boss Phil Brown is close to bringing Sunderland defender Paul McShane back to the KC Stadium.

The 25-year-old, who spent four months on loan with the Tigers last term, is tipped to seal a £2million transfer to City in the next week.

McShane made 17 appearances for Hull last term before being recalled by Sunderland but is not believed to be in new boss Steve Bruce's first-team plans.

Brown has already signed Jozy Altidore, Seyi Olofinjana, Kamel Ghilas and Stephen Hunt since the end of last season and continues to be linked with Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt.

Serbia international Nemanja Vidic has rubbished ongoing speculation linking him with a move away from Manchester United before the transfer window closes next Tuesday.

The defender's agent, Paolo Fabbri, was recently quoted as saying the 27-year-old was keen to seal a move to Barcelona, but Vidic insists he is happy at Old Trafford.

It had been suggested in the summer that a transfer was in the offing as Vidic's wife has failed to settle in Manchester.

In cricket, Andrew Flintoff has undergone surgery on his injured knee and could be sidelined for up to 12 months.

The 31-year-old, who ended his Test career by helping England regain The Ashes this summer, had the operation on Monday.

Flintoff, whose career has been ravaged by injuries, is still available to feature in one-day and Twenty20 internationals for his country.

In rugby union, South Africa wing Bryan Habana has ended speculation surrounding his future by signing a deal with Western Province.
