No Eastlands move for Eto'o

Author: Craig Williams
Date: 12/07/2009

Manchester City have run out of patience with Samuel Eto'o and ended their interest in Barcelona's Cameroon international.

The forward looked to be heading to Eastlands when the two clubs agreed a transfer fee a fortnight ago but personal demands by the player for a proportion of the settlement look to have derailed the deal.

However, City have allowed Brazilian striker Jo to return to Everton on a season-long loan agreement while Micah Richards has been diagnosed as the first top-flight footballer to contract swine flu.

The coveted defender, a transfer target of Arsenal and Everton in recent weeks, has picked up the illness while on holiday in Cyprus and must remain in the country until he has fully recovered.

Reports suggest City boss Mark Hughes will make a third bid for Chelsea defender John Terry next week.

The England international has already been the subject of two offers from the Eastlands club, both of which have been rejected by Chelsea.

City are looking to strengthen their defence in time for next season, having already signed midfielder Gareth Barry and striker Roque Santa Cruz this summer.

It is thought Hughes is ready to offer up to £40million for Terry, and reports suggest the club could pay him £300,000-a-week in wages.

City are also believed to be on the verge of completing a deal to sign Argentina international Carlos Tevez.

The Citizens fly out for a pre-season tour of South Africa on Wednesday and it is thought Hughes will have concluded the deal by then.

Tevez, who brought his two-year loan stay at Manchester United, the online betting favourites to retain their Premier League title, to an end earlier in the summer, has also been linked with Chelsea.

City could also sell Zimbabwe international forward Benjani to Blackburn Rovers.

Sam Allardyce is desperate to bolster his strikeforce after selling Santa Cruz and Matt Derbyshire this summer but has decided not to continue his interest in Real Madrid's Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Veteran former Italy international Christian Vieri is currently on trial with the club while Allardyce continues to be linked with Tottenham's Darren Bent.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has rubbished suggestions that Manchester United have tried to sign Argentina international Sergio Aguero.

Reports claimed last term's Premier League champions had offered £30million plus Portuguese winger Nani for the 21-year-old striker.

Finally in formula one, Mark Webber is on course to claim his first ever victory after enjoying a successful qualifying session for Sunday's German Grand Prix.

The Australian will start on pole position for the first time in his Formula One career, which has spanned 130 races.
