Harlequins forward George Robson has been charged for the head-butt which saw him sent off from Saturday's opening weekend Guinness Premiership clash with Wasps.

The lock was given his marching orders for the incident after just 46 seconds of Saturday's double-header at Twickenham, which left Wasps scrum-half Joe Simpson with a bloody nose and headaches.

The Rugby Football Union's disciplinary panel will summon Robson on Tuesday evening to determine a punishment for the incident.

The minimum sanction for a head-butt is a four-week ban, though a maximum three-month suspension will be considered.

In cricket, Kent coach Simon Willis believes that opening batsman Joe Denly could be fit for selection for England's fourth one-day international against Australia next weekend.

The 23-year-old suffered a knee injury during practice ahead of the first game of the seven-match series and has not been able to play a part as the tourists have surged into a 2-0 lead.

Denly is all but certain to miss game three at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday, but could be back in contention for next Saturday's clash at Lord's.

Meanwhile, Ricky Ponting has announced his retirement from international Twenty20 cricket.

The 34-year-old wants to put all his efforts into captaining Australia at Test match level and in 50-over cricket. In a statement, Ponting said he had made the decision 'after much thought and careful consideration'.

Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey would not be surprised if he lost his place in the England starting line-up for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Croatia to Jermain Defoe.

The 22-year-old has been forced to have knee surgery after picking up the injury while on international duty last month, ahead of the friendly against Italy.

The Swiss Football Federation have announced that Djourou is likely to be out of action until next March.

Wigan Athletic midfielder Jason Koumas has retired from international football at the age of 29.

Koumas made his debut for Wales eight years ago and went on to represent his country on 34 occasions, finding the net ten times.

Robinho is a doubt for Manchester City's Premier League clash with Arsenal this weekend after injuring his thigh in Brazil's 3-1 win against Argentina.

The 25-year-old has already been ruled out of his country's next World Cup game against Chile on Wednesday, although Brazil, who are the online favourites to win next summer's finals in South Africa. have already qualified for the tournament.

Robinho, who has stayed in South America to receive treatment, is due to return to Manchester following the Chile game.
