Ron rules out United exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has once again pledged his long-term future to Premier League betting favourites Manchester United by ruling out a summer move away from Old Trafford.

The Portugal star was involved in a high-profile transfer tug-of-war between United and Real Madrid last summer after suggesting that he wanted to move to Spain.

The World and European Player of the Year was ultimately persuaded to remain at Old Trafford by Sir Alex Ferguson, but rumours have continued to surround Ronaldo's future in England.

However, the 24-year-old wideman has revealed he wants to win more trophies with the Red Devils next season which would appear to rule out any summer transfer.

"It is a great feeling and I love to play here," he said. "I am very happy here. I want to win more trophies here. At the moment I think I am at the right club."

Meanwhile, Ferguson himself has labelled ex-Real president Ramon Calderon as a 'dinosaur' over his continuing talk about Ronaldo.

Calderon said earlier in the week that Real had already agreed a deal for one of the leading players in the world to join the club in the summer, but Ferguson remains adamant that Ronaldo is going nowhere.

He told the Sunday Express: "All the talk about Cristiano was coming from Calderon. He is a dinosaur, he has been buried."

In rugby union Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan has threatened to make major changes after seeing his side thrashed 50-12 by Cardiff Blues in the EDF Energy Cup final.

The Cherry and Whites trailed by 17 points at the interval at Twickenham and fell apart after the restart as the Welsh side ran riot.

Ryan said: "This group isn't good enough to compete at this level. We have to accept that and it will be part of our review over the summer.

"We will look at taking the club in a different direction with a different group of people in the next year. We must address the problem with recruitment."

Meanwhile, Llanelli Scarlets have agreed a deal to sign New Zealand flanker Daniel Braid on a three-year contract from Queensland Reds.

The 28-year-old should join up with the Welsh club in the summer and chief executive Stuart Gallacher believes that Braid will be a big hit at Parc y Scarlets.

He told the club's official website: "We're delighted to have Dan on board. He will add more quality, power and speed to our pack. He is a world-class player and no doubt will have an impact here."

In cricket, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has played down injury concerns over England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff.

Flintoff seemed to be struggling with an ankle injury during the IPL opener against the Mumbai Indians, but Dhoni doesn't think that the problem was anything too serious.

He said: "I don't think he's injured. As far as the playing eleven is concerned for the next match, we'll have a look and re-assess things then."
