The start of the Davis Cup tie between holders Spain and Serbia has been suspended due to high winds, with online betting exchanges suspended.

The harsh conditions caused major damage to the specially-built 16,000 capacity stadium in Benidorm, with the tie likely to be delayed by at least a day as a consequence.

In cricket, rain ruined the second one-day international between New Zealand and India in Wellington, with only 28.4 overs of play possible before the match was abandoned.

The tourists went into the game having won the first ODI and made a flying start after winning the toss and choosing to bat first at the Westpac Stadium.

Virender Sehwag blasted nine fours and a six in smashing 54 from just 36 balls faced, before he was the first man to go with the total on 76.

Sachin Tendulkar made 61 from 69 deliveries before he was trapped leg before wicket by Black Caps skipper Daniel Vettori.

Yuvraj Singh went for a duck and Gautam Gambhir made 30 before he was the fourth man out, before persistent rain once again forced the players from the field and this time they did not return and the match was called off.

Next up for the two sides is the third ODI of a five-match series, which takes place on Sunday at Hamilton's Seddon Park.

The second Test between South Africa and Australia has got underway at Kingsmead in Durban, with the tourists powering to 119-0 by lunch on day one.

Phil Hughes had dominated proceedings in reaching 75 not out by the interval, having struck 14 boundaries from 90 balls faced, while Simon Katich was unbeaten on 36.

The Baggy Greens lead the three-match series 1-0 after a superb 162-run victory in the first Test in Johannesburg.

On the USPGA Tour, Australia's Robert Allenby leads the way after the first round of the Honda Classic in Florida, having shot a four-under par 66 to head the field.

Spain's Sergio Garcia and Argentina's Angel Cabrera are among a group of six players one shot behind Allenby.

In Darts' Premier League, leader Mervyn King lost his 100 per cent record as he was held to a 7-7 draw by reigning PDC World Champion Phil Taylor.
