Rafael Benitez has rubbished growing suggestion that his misfiring Liverpool squad lacks depth.

The Reds slipped to a fourth defeat of the Premier League season at Sunderland on Saturday without talismanic skipper Steven Gerrard and leading striker Fernando Torres through injury.

Benitez blamed last season's failure to overhaul Manchester United in the title race on the absence of one of both of his star players at key times during the campaign.

However, a defiant Reds boss has dismissed suggestions that his side can't perform without the star duo.

Celtic legend Henrik Larsson will bring the curtain down on his long and illustrious career at the end of the current domestic season in Sweden.

The 38-year-old former Feyenoord, Barcelona, Celtic and Manchester United striker's last game will be current club Helsingborg's league meeting against Elfsborg on November 1.

Injured Wigan Warriors captain Sean O'Loughlin has been replaced in England's rugby league Four Nations squad by Hull FC starlet Tom Briscoe.

O'Loughlin has withdrawn from Tony Smith's squad after suffering a hand injury during Saturday's victory over Wales in Bridgend.

His absence has led Smith to call up Briscoe after he starred in the 48-12 victory at Brewery Field. The 19-year-old winger scored two tries on his England debut.

Bradford Bulls have made a shock move to re-sign former full-back Stuart Reardon.

Reardon, 28, has not played since May 2008 and was available on a free transfer after seeing his career head downhill following his departure from Odsal in 2005.

The former Great Britain international was released by Warrington Wolves in 2008 after being handed a 12-week suspended sentence for assaulting his estranged wife.

He then joined Hull FC midway through the latest season only to be released 11 days later when he failed a medical due to a career-threatening Achilles injury.
