Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed that he will be able to call on the services of England international Jermain Defoe for Saturday lunchtime's derby clash at Arsenal.

The ex-Portsmouth striker has been sidelined for just over two months following surgery on damaged ankle ligaments.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could start Saturday's game with Wigan Athletic on the substitute's bench. The England international has not featured for United or England since coming on as a substitute in last month's 2-2 draw with West Brom.

Meanwhile, United are reportedly on the verge of completing the capture of Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard from Aalesund. The 26-year-old is rumoured to be in England for a medical.

United are set to pay around £3.5million for Lindegaard who they have identified as a long-term replacement for veteran shot-stopper Edwin van der Sar.

Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks is set for a two-month injury lay-off after breaking his kneecap at West Ham United.

The 28-year-old picked up the problem during the goalless Premier League draw at Upton Park and he will now be out of action until the new year.

Gilks has been in fine form for the top-flight newcomers and his performances were rewarded when Scotland manager Craig Levein brought him into the national squad in August.

Liverpool have confirmed club captain Steven Gerrard will be out of action for around a month after he sustained a hamstring problem during England's 2-1 friendly loss against France at Wembley on Wednesday evening.

The midfield talisman was forced out of the action five minutes from time in the capital and the Anfield medical team have suggested the injury will require a rest period of between three and four weeks.

England head coach Fabio Capello has received criticism from the club after it was agreed Gerrard would play for an hour in London, but his evening was prolonged, ultimately resulting in his setback.
