Walcott suffers fresh injury

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott faces another spell on the sidelines after limping out of the 3-1 win against Birmingham City with a knee injury.

The England international was making his first start of the season having been sidelined since August with a back problem, but picked up another injury following a strong challenge by Blues defender Liam Ridgewell.

Newspaper reports suggest that a multinational consortium are lining up a £100million bid to buy struggling West Ham United.

The Upton Park club are currently owned by CB Holding, but a consortium of Hammers fans, headed by Wall Street businessman Jim Bowe, are reported to be keen on taking over.

Bowe, the chief executive of Intermarket Group and a former head of the New York Board of Trade, told The News of The World: "My colleagues and I have been approached by the consortium with the aim of buying West Ham in its entirety."

Veteran Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will wait a while longer before deciding whether to extend his illustrious career by another season.

The 38-year-old Netherlands international made his first appearance of the campaign in the 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Old Trafford this weekend, having been sidelined by injury since the summer.

Van der Sar has been with United since the summer of 2005 and is closing in on the 200-appearance mark for the club.

He previously made his name during spells with Fulham, Juventus and Ajax, while he is also the most capped Dutch player of all-time.

Somerset Sabres have been knocked out of the Champions League in India after suffering a resounding six-wicket defeat to New South Wales.

The loss brought an end to Australia veteran Justin Langer's time with the county, with the opening batsman set to retire from the game.

Somerset were already up against it in the Super Eights, having been beaten by five wickets by South African side the Eagles on Friday.

Against NSW, the Sabres could only manage 11-7 when batting first, with Zander de Bruyn top-scoring with a mere 23.

Russia's Nikolay Davydenko caused an upset in the final of the Shanghai Masters by defeating world number two Rafael Nadal in straight sets.

Sixth seed Davydenko had despatched world number three Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and continued to show top form in his victory over Nadal.

A tight first set went to a tie-break, which Davydenko won thanks to a number of superb backhand winners.

He then took charge in the second set, breaking Nadal in the sixth game before easing home 6-3 to seal a fine win.

Ducati's Casey Stoner completed a hat-trick of victories at the Australian Grand Prix with a superb victory at Phillip Island.

Stoner beat off the challenge of standings leader Valentino Rossi to clinch the win, while Rossi extended his lead in the championship to 38 points as nearest rival Jorge Lorenzo crashed out at the first corner.
