Theo Walcott
Although the flying Arsenal winger has his doubters at club level, Walcott seems certain to be heading to his second World Cup.
The 21-year-old is still some way short of recapturing his hat-trick form against Croatia in a qualifying game back in September 2008, but Capello has seen what he is capable of when injury free and bursting with confidence.
Chances of making the squad: 9/10
James Milner
Often players can be victims of their versatility but Milner seems certain to make the squad due to his ability to play almost anywhere for both England and Aston Villa.
The 24-year-old started out as a centre forward but is equally adept at full-back or anywhere across the midfield.
He also scores goals and cannot be faulted for his work ethic.
Chances of making the squad: 8/10
Shaun Wright-Phillips
The Manchester City flyer looked to have played himself out of contention before a goalscoring substitute appearance in last month's international friendly against Egypt at Wembley.
The 30-times capped winger has struggled to recapture his best form for City this season but is back in Capello's thoughts.
Chances of making the squad: 7/10
Aaron Lennon
Back in November, Lennon was the frontrunner to not just make the squad but start games in South Africa.
The Tottenham wideman was terrorising Premier League defences with his blistering pace and answering critics with an improved final pass.
However, the only question mark hanging over for the former Leeds youngster is his continuing battle with a groin injury which has been dragging on since December.
Chances of making the squad: 7/10
Ashley Young
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill rates Young highly but it hasn't been the most effective of seasons for the 24-year-old.
The £12million former Watford starlet has scored just four league goals for the Midlands club and has struggled to impose himself against the top teams.
Chances of making the squad: 5/10
Adam Johnson
Johnson has been coming up on the rails since making the move from Middlesbrough to Manchester City in January.
City boss Roberto Mancini believes he is a dark horse for a place in the squad and his impudent goal against Sunderland last weekend certainly suggests he has the confidence to shine on the biggest stage of all.
