MULTIPLE(S) BETTING RULES

  1. A multiple will stand even if one ore more legs that make up the bet become void. If all legs but one are void, the multiple will revert to a single bet on the remaining selection.

    Example
You bet on Chelsea to win the Premiership title ('outright'), Liverpool to win 3-0 in their next game against Newcastle ('correct score'), and Tiger Woods to win the US Masters (outright). The Liverpool vs. Newcastle match was abandoned and bets were rendered void. Your treble becomes a double on Chelsea and Woods.

  2. Multiples cannot include individual legs that are 'connected'. If 888sport mistakenly accepts such a bet, the stake will be divided equally between the connected selections.

    Example
A bet on AC Milan to advance to the Champions League knockout stages and a second bet on AC Milan to win the tournament outright cannot be combined to form a 'double' because the first leg of the bet makes up part of the overall tournament and is therefore 'connected' with the second.

  3. Multiples cannot include two legs from the same individual event.

    Example
Barcelona vs. Lyons, you bet 'Barcelona to win 2-1' from the 'correct score' market. You cannot combine an over/under bet from the 'total goals scored' market to form another leg of your multiple. This includes the 'Win/Draw/Win' market.

  4. Multiples cannot include two bets on the same selection to win two separate 'tournaments'.

    Example
Tiger Woods to win the US Masters cannot be combined with Tiger Woods to win the British Open to form a multiple. However, this particular combination may still be available as a 'double' if a market opens up for it. This possibility will be indicated on your betslip.

  5. Where you select an each-way double, or higher, stakes are carried over 'win to win' and 'place to place'.

    Example
You place a £5 each-way double on Horse A in Race 1 and Horse B in Race 2.

    • If Horse A wins, the 'win returns' are carried over to the win stakes in Race 2, and the 'place returns' are carried over to the place stakes in Race 2.
    • If Horse A only places in Race 1, win stakes are lost and 'place returns' are carried over as place stakes in Race 2.
    • If Horse A neither wins or places in Race 1 all stakes are lost.

Types of multiple bets

Bet Type Explanation
Accumulator A bet on four or more selections; all of which must win to gain a return.
Accumulators are often named after the number of selections they contain, as in a fourfold, fivefold or sixfold accumulator, and so on.
Each-way An each-way bet consists of 2 bets on one selection, 1 that the selection will win a race or an event, and the other that the selection will place.

If the selection wins, both sides of the bet are settled as winners.

If the selection places but does not win, the place side of the bet is settled at the price (odds) quoted at the moment the bet was placed.
Single A bet on an individual selection.
Double A bet on 2 selections in 2 separate events.  Both selections must win in order to give a return.
Treble A bet on 3 selections in 3 separate events.  All 3 selections must win in order to give a return.
Trixie A wager on 3 selections and consisting of 4 separate bets: 3 doubles and a treble.
Yankee A wager on four selections and consisting of 11 separate bets: 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold accumulator.
Canadian (Super Yankee) A wager on five selections and consisting of 26 separate bets: 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 fourfolds and a fivefold accumulator.
Heinz A wager on six selections and consisting of 57 separate bets: 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, 6 fivefolds and a sixfold accumulator.  It is named for the '57 varieties' advertising slogan of the H. J. Heinz Company, best known for Heinz Ketchup.
Super Heinz A wager on seven selections and consisting of 120 separate bets: 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 fourfolds, 21 fivefolds, 7 sixfolds and a sevenfold accumulator.
Goliath A wager on eight selections and consisting of 247 separate bets: 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 fivefolds, 28 sixfolds, 8 sevenfolds and an eightfold accumulator.
Patent A wager on 3 selections involving 7 separate bets: 3 singles, 3 doubles and 1 treble.  Equivalent to a Trixie plus 3 singles.
Lucky 15 A wager on four selections and consisting of 15 separate bets: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold accumulator. Equivalent to a Yankee plus 4 singles.  It's lucky because it pays double the odds if you have only 1 winner, and a 10% bonus on your winnings (minus stake) if all 4 selections win.
Lucky 31 A wager on five selections and consisting of 31 separate bets: 5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 fourfolds and a fivefold accumulator. Equivalent to a Canadian plus 5 singles. It's lucky because it pays double the odds if you have only 1 winner, and a 20% bonus on your winnings (minus stake) if all 6 selections win.
Lucky 63 A wager on 6 selections and consisting of 63 separate bets: 6 singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, 6 five-folds and 1 six-fold.  It's lucky because it pays double the odds if you have only 1 winner, and a 25% bonus on your winnings (minus stake) if all 6 selections win.

Permutations ('perms')

'Perm' bets allow you to increase your winning potential on a number of selections.  This is best explained by example.  Consider the following 3 selections:

(A) West Ham to beat Newcastle, 1/1
(B) Reading to beat Middlesborough, 6/4
(C) Manchester United to beat Manchester City 5/4.

You can place 3 separate bets on each match, i.e. 3 singles (A, B, C).  You can place a bet on all three, i.e. a treble (ABC at new odds; see below to find out how to calculate winning odds for multiple bets).  However you can also 'perm' any 2 games from the 3 selections to get 3 possible doubles (AB, AC, BC) raising the total number of bets to 7 on your three selections.

And so on and so forth.  In the case of 4 selections, there would be 15 available bets.

4 singles (A, B, C, D),
6 doubles (AB, AC, AD, BC, BD, CD),
4 trebles (ABC, ABD, ACD, BCD), and
1 four-fold (ABCD)

Note that a multiple bet on all of these permutations minus the singles is called a Trixie. See the Bet Types above for names of different multiple/perm bets.

How do I calculate my winning odds on a multiple or accumulator?

Just multiply the prices (odds) of the different selections, but don't forget to include the stake. To do this with fractional odds, just use the following formula.

Let's assume you place a double on two selections, with odds of a/b and c/d.

Your returns (stake included) = [ (a+b)/b * (c+d)/d ] * stake

Example:
You place a £10 double on two selections, with odds of 2/1 and 7/2.
Your returns (stake included) = [ (2+1)/1 * (7+2)/2 ] * your ₤10 stake = 13.5*₤10 = ₤135 (including stake)
