RACING BETTING RULES

Bets on horseracing are governed by "Tattersalls Rules of Betting"; these will be referred to should any eventuality occur not covered by our stated rules.

  1. All bets placed on UK and Irish horse racing will be settled on First Past the Post and the official result. This applies to win single and multiple bets and the win part of each way bets.

The exceptions where First Past the Post does not apply and bets are settled according to the official result are:
    1. A selection taking the wrong course
    2. A selection carrying the wrong weight or the jockey failing to weigh-in
    3. Any Ante Post bet
    4. A Forecast or Tricast bet
    5. A void race
    6. Any Tote Bet
    7. A selection given as the winner in error by the judge
  2. Any bets struck before the overnight declaration stage ("ante-post bets") will stand whether the horse runs or not, unless the horse is balloted out, or the race is postponed and not re-run, in which case bets will be void. In the event of a race being postponed to another day:

"Ante Post bets placed before the entries have closed should stand and only be made void if the race is abandoned or made void, if the horse is balloted out/eliminated under Jockey Club Rule 125, or the venue is changed".

"Ante Post bets placed after the entries have closed should be void, except when the race is run at a later date at the same venue and entries for the race are not reopened, in which case bets would stand".
  3. Ante-post betting ceases at the overnight declaration stage and all bets placed after this stage will be non-runner no bet, Tattersalls Rule 4 may apply.
  4. If a horse is withdrawn not under starter's order, or is officially deemed by the Starter not to have taken part, stakes on that horse will be refunded and winning bets may be liable to deductions in accordance with Tattersalls Rule 4.
  5. The rate of deductions is as follows:
    • If it is between 1/9 or shorter 90p is deducted.
    • If it is between 2/11 and 2/17 then 85p is deducted.
    • If it is between 1/4 and 1/5 then 80p is deducted.
    • If it is between 3/10 and 2/7 then 75p is deducted.
    • If it is between 1/3 and 2/5 then 70p is deducted.
    • If it is between 4/9 and 8/15 then 65p is deducted.
    • If it is between 4/7 and 8/13 then 60p is deducted.
    • If it is between 4/6 and 4/5 then 55p is deducted.
    • If it is between 5/6 and 20/21 then 50p is deducted.
    • If it is between evens and 6/5 then 45p is deducted.
    • If it is between 5/4 and 6/4 then 40p is deducted.
    • If it is between 13/8 and 7/4 then 35p is deducted.
    • If it is between 15/8 and 9/4 then 30p is deducted.
    • If it is between 5/2 and 3/1 then 25p is deducted.
    • If it is between 10/3 and 4/1 then 20p is deducted.
    • If it is between 9/2 and 11/2 then 15p is deducted.
    • If it is between 6/1 and 9/1 then 10p is deducted.
    • If it is between 10/1 and 14/1 then 5p is deducted.
    • If it is between 14/1 or longer no deduction will be made.
  6. If a new market is formed after a horse is withdrawn, bets struck at S.P.("starting price") will be settled on the basis of the new market and no deduction will be applicable.
  7. Each way terms are as follows:
    • No each way available on races with 4 or less runners.
    • 1/4 of the odds on the first two places for races with 5 to 7 runners.
    • 1/5 of the odds on the first three places for non-handicap races of 8 or more runners.
    • 1/5 of the odds on the first three places for handicap races with 8 to 11 runners.
    • 1/4 of the odds on the first three places for handicap races with 12 to 15 runners.
    • 1/4 of the odds on the first four places for handicap races with 16 or more runners.
The above terms will determine the odds and number of places on which we pay out, superceding any terms advertised for particular races (unless it is clear that the advertised prices represent a special offer). We will endeavour to quote the correct terms but in the event of late withdrawals the terms may change. Should there be less than five runners due to withdrawals the place part of any each way bet will become a win bet.
  8. Where 'Place Only' betting is offered bets will be settled as follows: The number of places paid will be clearly displayed on our website for each race on which place only betting is available. All stakes on any non-runners will be refunded, however the number of places paid will not alter as a result of any non-runners. Bets on the remaining horses in the race will be subject to a deduction in accordance with the following table:

    Number of places paid

Place Only price of runner (at the time of withdrawal) 2nd 3rd 4th
    Over 14/1 0p 0p 0p
    10/1 to 14/1 5p 0p 0p
    6/1 to 9/1 5p 5p 5p
    9/2 to 11/2 10p 5p 5p
    10/3 to 4/1 10p 10p 5p
    5/2 to 3/1 15p 10p 5p
    15/8 to 9/4 15p 10p 10p
    13/8 to 7/4 20p 15p 10p
    5/4 to 6/4 20p 15p 10p
    Evens to 6/5 25p 15p 10p
    5/6 to 20/21 25p 20p 15p
    4/6 to 4/5 30p 20p 15p

    1/3 to 2/5 35p 25p 20p
    2/7 to 3/10 40p 25p 20p
    1/5 to 1/4 40p 30p 20p
    2/17 to 2/11 45p 30p 20p
    1/16 to 1/9 45p 30p 25p
    1/18 or less 50p 35p 25p
  9. Total deductions will not exceed 95p in the £. In the event that the number of runners is the same or less then the number of places paid, all bets will be void. Dead-heat rules apply.
  10. For betting on an unnamed favourite where two or more runners are returned joint or co-favourites, stakes will be divided and invested equally on each runner. Should the favourite be withdrawn before coming under Starter's orders but too late for a new market to be formed, bets involving the favourite are void.
  11. The favourites market relates to the aggregate performance of favourites over the course of a race meeting. In each race the favourite scores 25 points if it wins, 10 points for second and 5 points for third. In the case of joint favourites the favourite with the lowest race card number is deemed the favourite for the purposes of this market. If any race is not completed, or in any race a favourite is withdrawn not under starters orders and a new market is not formed, all bets will be void.
  12. The distances market relates to the aggregate winning distances over the course of a race meeting. The maximum make-up per race is 12 lengths for flat races, 30 lengths for National Hunt races (including National Hunt flat races). If any race is not completed all bets will be void. For the avoidance of doubt, the winning distance will be the officially declared distance between the first two horses which have completed the race and followed the correct course.
