Steve Mullington gives his best horse racing tips for Friday, with a NAP, Next Best and a Longshot at Sandown and Doncaster...

3.00 Sandown – Poker Face (NAP)

The Edward Ware-owned Poker Face had the season of all seasons last term, with the highlight being his victory in the Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein at ParisLongchamp.

For me he has been underestimated in the betting again for this Sandown Mile and I would have made him a close second favourite to Lord North.

Six victories and three runner-up spots from eleven starts are seriously impressive statistics for this five year-old, and the Crisford runner will have his ideal conditions once again on Saturday.

Danger: Lord North

2.25 Sandown – Desert Hero (NB)

Tom Marquand dons the royal silks on Friday for trainer William Haggas aboard Desert Hero in the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes for which he is a well fancied 9/4 chance in our horse racing odds.

The four-year-old was progressive throughout last season, scoring late in both the King George V Stakes and the Group 3 Gordon Stakes. His best run was probably his staying on third to Continuous in the St Leger at Doncaster.

Gelded since we last saw him out in public, the four-year-old looks to hold an outstanding chance here.

Danger: Artistic Star

4.55 Doncaster - Sea Master (E/W Longshot)

A speculative longshot for me today, but I’m hoping this son of Sea The Stars can come good for the Jason Ward-stable.

Sea Master was somewhat disappointing in his three runs for Ward last season, but off just 9st 3lbs and his jockey claiming a further 5lbs it’s very hard to ignore the gelding in the betting off such a favourable mark.

Gianlucca Sanna has a decent record aboard 4yo+ horses so fingers crossed for a big each-way effort.

Danger: Animato
