Last week was a tough one for betting – Peter Wright’s 7-1 defeat at the hands of Mensur Suljovic crushed plenty of accumulators.

But alas, we are back with more Premier League Darts and this time it is Nottingham’s turn to host the event. Check out my tips ahead of Thursday’s action:

MICHAEL SMITH vs Peter Wright

Smith’s unbeaten run is over. The former youth champion was riding his luck a little bit and Cross was the main beneficiary – this one won’t be straightforward either.

With four wins in five games, he is in decent form and you’d fancy Smith to bounce back after that defeat. It could go the distance but Smith should have the edge over his opponent.

I’m finding it hard to understand why Wright is favourite here. Smith has been exceeding expectations but Wright has struggled to inspire confidence – this one is a no brainer in my opinion.

Wright is in desperate need of a win; it is hard to back him on current form though and that is why I’m going with Smith at a very tasty 43/20.

TIP: Michael Smith to win @ 43/20

SIMON WHITLOCK vs DARYL GURNEY

Hard to back a winner in this contest and that is why I’m going for the over 10.5 legs. At the start of the campaign, Whitlock was showing signs that he was back to his best but that form has faded.

Now, the Australian is wayward one week and accurate the next; predicting his matches is becoming very difficult indeed.

On the flip side, Gurney has been consistent. Consistently bad. The Northern Irishman has failed to make a positive impression on the Premier League thus far – is this his time to shine on the big stage?

This could go all the way and that is why I fancy the 21/50 for a close contest. Neither player is in great form and it might be a drawn out affair.

TIP: Over 10.5 legs @ 21/50

Mensur Suljovic vs ROB CROSS

Suljovic produced the performance of the night last time out, thrashing Wright 7-1 in front of a shocked Leeds crowd. Can he carry that momentum into this clash? If he does, we are in for a real treat.

The Austrian is one of the most charismatic players in the sport and Cross will need to be at his brilliant best to deal with the expected Suljovic onslaught.

Write the world champion off at your peril. Cross was under intense pressure a month or so ago but he has silenced most of those doubters – he has now won three Premier League games on the spin.

His victory over the previously undefeated Smith raised a few eyebrows last week and he represents solid value at 4/5 for a fourth successive triumph.

TIP: Rob Cross to win @ 4/5

Gerwyn Price vs MICHAEL VAN GERWEN

A complete mismatch on paper. With just two points from five Premier League games, Price is rooted to the bottom of the table and the ‘Iceman’ may struggle to keep up with Van Gerwen’s power scoring.

It will take a monumental effort from Price to pick up his first win of the season. You won't find too many people tipping the upset...

On the other hand, Van Gerwen is going from strength to strength. The world number one averages 100 on a weekly basis and it would take a brave man to opt for anything other than a convincing win in his favour.

8/11 for ‘Mighty Mike’ to win and hit the most 180s is a very appealing price – he should be dominant.

TIP: Michael Van Gerwen to win and hit most 180s @ 8/11

Raymond van Barneveld vs GARY ANDERSON

Van Barneveld got back to winning ways last time out and the Dutchman must now try to build momentum. Judgement Night is approaching and the five-time world champion is on the cusp of qualification.

He will be quietly confident of pushing Anderson close in the final game on Thursday night – this could be an absolute cracker.

The ‘Flying Scotsman’ is nearing full fitness and he has started to show some of his best form in recent weeks. Anderson is capable of beating anyone on his day and he will take some stopping here.

Van Barneveld will have plenty of support but 13/25 for the in-form Anderson shouldn’t be sniffed at. That is a decent price considering his resurgence.

TIP: Gary Anderson to win @ 13/25
