Football fans will be given an early Christmas present on Friday night when Liverpool travel down to north London for a clash with Arsenal under the floodlights. With two of England’s strongest clubs in action, goals look likely and bettors may be tempted by the 5/4 on offer for over 3.5 goals – there have been 21 goals in the last four games involving the two sides.

Jurgen Klopp’s men currently sit one point above the Gunners and a win for Liverpool could be huge in the outcome of the top four race. With both Manchester clubs pulling away at the top of the table, Arsenal cannot afford to allow Liverpool to develop an advantage. Here are my thoughts on Friday’s huge game. We could be in for a festive treat…

Consistency Hinders Arsenal’s Top Four Ambitions

The Gunners have failed to build momentum so far this campaign, particularly away from home. At the Emirates, they have been better but Wenger’s men have been unconvincing in December. After losing to Manchester United and scraping past Newcastle United, Arsenal are due a big performance and punters will fancy the Gunners at 29/20 for the win.

Arsenal are stacked in attack and Wenger’s side have enough quality to cause problems for this Liverpool defence. Mesut Ozil is now back to his brilliant best and both Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette can turn a game on its head. Liverpool will probably score but that brings the 27/10 for an Arsenal win with both teams scoring into play.

More Often Than Not, Liverpool Score Goals In This Fixture

At the time of writing, 888sport punters can back the Reds to notch over 1.5 goals at 19/20 in our Premier League betting markets. Klopp’s side have scored at least three goals in each of their last four matches against Arsenal and Liverpool could profit again here. This Arsenal defence is shaky at the best of times and the Reds can get at the back four.

Liverpool have one of the best, if not the best, attacking units in England’s top flight – and Klopp knows it. In Mohamed Salah, Phillipe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, the Reds have a very dangerous offensive quartet. Since joining in the summer, Salah has been a revelation at Anfield and may be the best bet to add to his goal tally at 7/5.

Backing a winner in this fixture is difficult but I’m going to side with the Reds. Liverpool are set up perfectly to capitalise on the counter attack and Klopp’s men should have the quality to exploit this Gunners defence. Salah is currently top of the Premier League Golden Boot charts with 14 goals and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Egypt star bag another on Friday evening.

Both teams should hit the back of the net and a 2-1 Liverpool win carries plenty of appeal at 9/1. It would be typical of this Gunners outfit to crumble in an important fixture and Klopp’s side could be celebrating another Emirates victory if everything goes to plan.
