On paper, this one looks like it could be a one-sided affair. Newcastle ended a run of four consecutive defeats with a draw at manager-less West Bromwich Albion earlier this week but Rafa Benitez’s men are in decline.
Traditionally, the Magpies do not travel well and it could get ugly if Chelsea go for the jugular. Newcastle have conceded 10 goals in their last three trips down to Stamford Bridge...
Chelsea Are Back To Their Brilliant Best
Antonio Conte-less Chelsea laboured past struggling Swansea City on Wednesday night but the Blues boss will be demanding an improved effort this weekend. Conte was sent to the stands for his protests over a corner kick decision that went against Chelsea and the Premier League champions were uninspiring without the charismatic Italian on the touchline.
Having said that, another clean sheet will please Blues fans and a similar result could be on the cards when Newcastle visit Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have won their last four at home against the Magpies, keeping a clean sheet in three of those triumphs. Currently valued at 3/4 to win to nil, Conte’s men are well worth backing given their defensive stability.
An early goal could set the tone for Saturday afternoon’s clash. Chelsea put five goal past a hapless Newcastle side in their most recent fixture and you can back the Blues at 26/25 to score three or more goals this weekend. Keeping pace with Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur is vital – especially ahead of the busy festive period.
The Magpies Need A Boost Ahead Of Festive Period
That’s now five Premier League games without a win for Newcastle and the Magpies cannot afford to let this run go on too much longer. Expecting a positive result this weekend would be unfair; Benitez may already have one eye on their upcoming clash with Leicester City. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Blues run riot here.
The early kick-off can throw up an unexpected result or two though and Newcastle fans will be hoping for a dramatic upset. The Magpies took the lead away at Old Trafford a couple of weeks ago but capitulated defensively when put under pressure. If the visitors can shore up at the back, under 3.5 match goals at 1/2 is worth a second look in 888sport’s Premier League betting markets.
Backing any Newcastle player to score may be foolish – it is difficult to see the Magpies creating too many chances in front of goal. Chelsea were slow to get going against Swansea and the 59/50 for no goals in the opening 30 minutes might be the pick of the bunch. From a Newcastle perspective, there isn’t much value in the market.
This one could be a cricket score. Chelsea are capable of putting Newcastle to the sword and I’m expecting a comfortable afternoon for the hosts. We’ve seen the Magpies crumble away from home time and time again and this could be another miserable trip for their passionate supporters.
The Blues should have enough quality in the final third to put three or four past this Newcastle outfit and Conte may be celebrating a more convincing win on Saturday.
