Football fans, get prepared for a HUGE Sunday of Premier League football. Starting with Huddersfield’s clash with Bournemouth at midday, the day culminates with Virgil van Dijk’s return to Southampton.
Throw a little bit of Newcastle United and Manchester United in the middle and that is a pretty tasty way to spend a day in front of the television.
We’ve previewed all three games, providing a top tip and correct score prediction for each fixture. The correct score treble is currently priced at just over 1000/1 whilst the much more realistic top tips accumulator is an 8/1 shot.
Check out our thoughts below, starting with Sunday's early kick-off between Huddersfield and Bournemouth…
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN vs AFC BOURNEMOUTH
Huddersfield needed extra-time to get past Championship side Birmingham City in their FA Cup replay on Tuesday evening and those excursions could prove detrimental ahead of this contest.
The Terriers were thrashed 4-0 in the return fixture back in November and punters should be snapping up the 13/10 available for over 2.5 goals this weekend.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth will be quietly confident of snatching another huge win here. The Cherries, unbeaten in seven league games, are now in the top half and Eddie Howe will be pleased with his side’s progress after a slow start.
You wouldn’t bet against Bournemouth on current form – confidence is certainly riding high on the south coast.
Over 2.5 goals has landed in six of Bournemouth’s last seven league games and four of the last five head-to-head fixtures. With that in mind, I’m taking the 13/10 on offer in 888sport’s football betting markets.
TIP: Over 2.5 goals @ 13/10
CORRECT SCORE: Match to end 2-2 @ 14/1
NEWCASTLE UNITED vs MANCHESTER UNITED
Rafa Benitez is not a miracle worker. He is an excellent football manager but he has been starved of resources at St James’ Park and Newcastle may find it tough to avoid relegation back to the Championship.
Kenedy has enjoyed an impressive start to life in the north east but is he the man to keep the Magpies in the Premier League? Only time will tell…
Meanwhile, Manchester United were dominant from start to finish against Huddersfield in their most recent encounter. Despite some claims of a crisis at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho’s men are still second in the table and the Red Devils will fancy their chances here.
United have an excellent record against Newcastle with just one defeat in their last 11 away fixtures against the Magpies and another positive result for the visitors beckons.
The Red Devils have scored 33 goals in those trips to St James’ Park and United could extend that impressive run this weekend. The 3/4 available for Mourinho’s side to score two or more goals is well worth taking.
TIP: Over 1.5 away goals @ 3/4
CORRECT SCORE: Manchester United to win 2-0 @ 13/2
SOUTHAMPTON vs LIVERPOOL
Southampton had won just once in 16 matches before last week’s 3-2 victory away at West Bromwich Albion. Mauricio Pellegrino is under pressure at St Mary’s but a good run of form in the coming weeks may silence the doubters.
For the time being, Saints have climbed out of the relegation zone but they remain just two points clear of 19th placed Huddersfield.
Liverpool were fuming after that controversial draw against Tottenham Hotspur but this is the ideal fixture for the Reds to get back on track. Jurgen Klopp’s men have lost just one of their last seven league games away from Anfield and a win here would be huge in the top four race.
Stopping Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino is a near-impossible task at this moment in time and Southampton may struggle to keep tabs on Liverpool's main men.
The selection has landed in four of Liverpool’s previous seven away fixtures AND in the last five head to heads. 6/5 is a good price considering Southampton’s struggles and I’ll be taking a chance on this one coming in.
TIP: Both teams to score - NO @ 6/5
CORRECT SCORE: Liverpool to win 2-0 @ 8/1
