Liverpool 2017

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool Set For Silverware-Laden Season?

Liverpool fans, THIS could be your year. Jurgen Klopp’s side showed plenty of potential but were forced to settle for a top four finish.

Securing a spot in this season’s Champions League was Liverpool’s primary target in the 2016/17 campaign so supporters were happy enough but this is now their chance to push on and compete for silverware.

In terms of fixtures between the top six, Liverpool came out on top – proving that they are capable of going up against the best teams in England and securing positive results.

Klopp is widely regarded as one of the most aggressive managers in the business and he demands a high-intensity approach, particularly in the field third.

Pressing high up the field has become part and parcel of Liverpool’s general play since Klopp arrived at Anfield but will it contribute to Reds success in the near future?

As of July 6th, you can back Liverpool at 3/1 to win a trophy next season – whether that is the Premier League title, FA Cup crown, EFL Cup or a coveted sixth European triumph.

Realistically, Liverpool might struggle to compete with the Real Madrid’s and Barcelona’s of European football. Klopp’s side are getting there but they aren’t the complete package just yet and it would be foolish to predict a Champions League success just yet.

However, Reds supporters will be confident of notching at least one of the other trophies; with a bit of luck in the cup competitions, Liverpool have the talent to go all the way to Wembley.

In order to compete with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, the Reds MUST improve defensively.

Liverpool showed glimpses of improvement last season but not enough to justify favouritism for silverware. With a left-back and a central defender or two, Klopp’s men could find themselves fighting at the top of the Premier League table.

As soon as Liverpool sort their defensive deficiencies, they will be in business. And with that in mind, I like the 25/1 on offer for the Reds to win two trophies next season.

The FA Cup has been devalued in recent years but Liverpool should view the competition as an ideal opportunity to add to the glittering trophy cabinet. A stab at the English title will arguably be Klopp’s primary goal but a solid cup run would go down well with the fans.

Over the years, the Reds have won 18 top flight titles, seven FA Cup crowns, 8 League Cups and five European Cups - imagine the scenes at Anfield if Liverpool are still in contention for all four competitions come February? Klopp has got Reds fans dreaming again but silverware is now a genuine possibility.

Surprisingly, the Reds are as short as 1/4 for another trophy-less season. It is difficult to envision Liverpool struggling too much next year although the added demands of European football could wreak havoc with their preparation for Premier League games.

If Klopp acts effectively in the remainder of the transfer window, he can bulk Liverpool’s squad out just enough to cope with those Champions League fixtures.

Liverpool are on the verge of something special and the Anfield faithful know it. They are heading in the right direction under Jurgen Klopp and a couple of astute signings may swing the title race in their favour.

Winning the Premier League crown won’t be easy but Liverpool are blessed with quality in key areas and at least one piece of silverware could be in the bank come the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
