Horse Racing Picks: Cheltenham Tips Today
2:05pm – Allmankind (NAP)
The opening race on Saturday afternoon’s Cheltenham card is for four-year-olds only and many punters will be eager to get another look at the useful Dan Skelton-trained Allmankind.
The front running gelding was a winner over the course and distance here last November before going on to win the Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow in December. He then went on to finish third in the Triumph Hurdle at the Festival itself.
Racing off a mark of 146, he is the top-rated performer in the field and understandably our 888sport NAP of the day. Anything around 11/8 in the online betting will look good come Saturday morning.
Of the others, Paul Nicholls’ Stratagem - successful in two of his three starts thus far, plus the consistent performers Nordano and Botox Has, will all give our selection plenty to think about in the opener.
3:15pm – I Better Go Now (E/W)
Pertemps Qualifiers are often a law unto themselves as participants need only to finish in the first six places to be eligible for the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival, so they are not a race to get heavily involved in financially.
Tobefair, runner-up in the 2019 contest at The Festival, won this contest 12 months ago and takes his chance again; however the lightly-weighted I Better Go Now is our 888 prediction as the each-way dark horse to follow in this.
Dan Skelton’s seven-year-old won with plenty in hand on his seasonal reappearance at Perth and could well be a horse on the up.
If the weather is not too testing, he will probably come in for a fair bit of support in the horse racing betting, with an estimated show price of around 7/1.
At the bottom of the handicap is the semi-permanent French resident Vaniteux, who has had one hell of a summer campaign for the Leech’s on that side of the Channel.
Just last Sunday, the former Henderson and Pipe veteran, ran another cracker of a race on a big weekend of top class contests at Auteuil. His odds of 40/1 for this event look far too difficult to ignore.
3:50pm – Frodon (WIN)
The Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Chase is the feature race of the day and it jammed packed full with Prestbury Park stalwarts.
Hard to leave out of any calculations is the Paul Nicholls-trained Frodon, who landed the 2019 Ryanair Chase at The Festival under Bryony Frost and is a five-time winner at this venue.
Horses of Frodon’s calibre simply don’t forget how to perform at their favourite tracks and the Bryony Frost-ridden eight-year-old will probably take some pegging back if he gets into his usual bold stride.
Another runner who knows this racecourse like the back of his hoof is Nigel Twiston-Davies’ Cogry.
Now an eleven-year-old, Cogry was the winner of this race in 2017, second in 2018 and third in 2019, and it would come as no surprise if he fills one of the podium spots again on Saturday.
