St Helens Super League 2018

Super League: 8/5 St Helens In Driving Seat For Grand Final Glory

We’re now halfway through the 2018 Super League campaign and the table is beginning to take shape after a busy start to the year.

Steve Price’s Warrington Wolves are on a 10-game winning run ahead of the Magic Weekend and plenty of punters will fancy the Wire to end their Grand Final hoodoo in October’s showpiece at Old Trafford.

Currently valued at 8/5 to secure a sixth Grand Final success, Justin Holbrook’s side have lost just two of their 14 regular season fixtures so far this year, scoring more points (454) and conceding fewer (164) of their Super League rivals.

A first title since 2014 beckons if everything goes to plan.

Now as short as 13/20 to secure the regular season crown, Saints are just two points clear of closest rivals Wigan Warriors. Shaun Wane’s men have a game in hand on the leaders and it should be an exciting end to the campaign.

Both teams are looking strong and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them lining up in the Grand Final. Backing a winner in that clash may prove difficult…

Meanwhile, the Challenge Cup is also a top target for Saints. Holbrook’s side will face Hull FC in the quarter-finals and the Totally Wicked Stadium faithful will be expecting a comfortable win in that contest.

As of May 18th, Saints are 8/5 to go on and lift the famous trophy at Wembley and it would take a brave man to back against them. There is an element of luck with cup competitions but St Helens are a class above.

Holbrook’s men have won eight of their previous nine games in all competitions and punters will be expecting big things in near future.

Winning the regular season, Challenge Cup and Grand Final is a real possibility given Saints’ dominance so far in 2018. Claiming the League Leaders’ Shield is the first port of call but St Helens have bigger fish to fry.

Saints will take on Widnes Vikings in the opening contest of this year’s Magic Weekend and you won’t find many bettors opposing Holbrook’s men.

There is no value whatsoever in the 1/18 for a St Helens win and backing the league leaders to score over 37.5 points at 17/20 may be the best option. On current form, Saints could run riot and this may get ugly for the Vikings.

Warrington and Wigan will both be quietly confident of toppling Saints at the business end of the season but Justin Holbrook’s side look destined to reach Old Trafford.

A first Grand Final victory since 2014 looks very likely indeed – St Helens have been on another level this year. Saints fans, start looking at transport and hotels for October’s showpiece fixture.
