Roger Federer

ATP Finals: 4/6 Federer The Pick Of The Bunch?

Without a doubt, Roger Federer will go down in history as one of the greatest tennis players of all-time. The 19-time Grand Slam champion stands tall as the most successful man to step onto a tennis court and he could be set for a seventh ATP Finals title in the near future.

As of November 12th, the final week of the ATP series will get underway at London’s O2 Arena and plenty of punters will be backing Federer to get the job done.

Federer has turned back the clocks in 2017 – he has been at his scintillating best for most of the calendar year. At 36 years old, he should be approaching his twilight years but Federer is showing no signs of slowing down.

Victory over Jack Sock is expected on Sunday afternoon and his adoring fan base, as loyal and passionate as ever, will be expecting a dominant effort from the Swiss superstar.

As of November 9th, Federer is valued at 1/10 to defeat Sock – 11 years his junior – and it may prove prudent to look into his price to win the tournament outright.

At 4/6, he is short enough in the betting but tennis fans will be encouraged by his recent form and it is hard to back against him. A potential clash with old foe Rafael Nadal awaits if both men go all the way but Federer is still the class act in the field.

In Sunday’s second clash, Alexander Zverev will take on Marin Cilic in what is arguably the most difficult match to predict. Touted as tennis’ brightest young talent, the 20 year old will be confident of getting past the big-serving Croatian but it could go the distance.

Zverev is currently valued at 17/20 to come out on top in that contest and punters should consider the 8/1 available for him to win the entire competition.

Zverev has faced Federer four times in his short professional career, winning two of those – giving him a surprising 50% success rate. You won’t find too many players who can boast that kind of a record against the 19-time Grand Slam champion.

In fact, Zverev was the victor when the two met at the ATP World Tour event in Canada earlier this year; Federer lost in straight sets on that particular day...

Dominic Thiem and Grigor Dimitrov kick off Monday’s double header; another intriguing battle between two very gifted players. Thiem, currently ranked fourth in the world, is the 29/20 underdog here; traders may reckon that Dimitrov’s “big game” experience could give him the edge.

It is hard to see either player going on to win the trophy but you never know – it would be foolish to write the winner off.

Last but not least, we have Nadal himself. David Goffin, a fantastic player in his own right, is going to find this one very tough indeed. The Spaniard will be looking to put on a show for his fans here and he is certainly worth a second glance at 7/2 in 888sport’s outright betting markets for the event.

At his brilliant best, he is easily the second best player in the sport and another mouth-watering battle between Federer and Nadal could be on the cards.

Backing a winner is tough but you’d have to fancy one of Federer or Nadal to win the event this week. Should either player slip up, new kid on the block Zverev has the quality to profit but his lack of experience at the top level could hinder his chances.

For me, it’s a no-brainer; stick with Federer and hope that his class prevails. More often than not, the Swiss star tends to produce the goods when it matters most of all.
