Double Rush
The majority of winners of this handicap in recent years have been aged 5+, but DOUBLE RUSH is clearly a sprinter on the up and is taken to strike for the Classic generation. The form of the Newmarket race he won in April has worked out well and he did well under the circumstances back from a break at York last month, leaving the strong impression that there is better to come. Jonny Concrete also performed with great credit on the Knavesmire last time and he is next on the list ahead of Nariko.

Kickstarted 2025 with 6f wins at Wolverhampton and Newmarket during the spring. Posted an excellent third of 18 to Hucklesbrook in handicap at York (6f, good to firm) back from a 2-month break last time and he's a major player off the same mark here.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosYork6fGood to Firm (Good in places)Flat3/18Newmarket (rowley)6fGood to SoftFlat1/10Wolverhampton6f 20yStandardFlat1/8Nottingham6f 18yHeavy (Soft in places)Flat5/10Haydock Park6fGood to SoftFlat4/5- 4(7)Strike RedJ: Billy GarrittyT: Richard Fahey9-62568Age 76/16/113/2

Landed a big pot at York last autumn and has acquitted himself well all 4 starts this season, his best effort coming at Leicester in April when second in a competitive 11-runner handicap (6f, good to firm). Just 1 lb above last winning mark and he's by no means discounted.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosNewcastle6fStandardFlat8/13Epsom Downs6f 3ySoftFlat6/11Newcastle6fStandardFlat5/13Leicester6fGood (Good to Firm in places)Flat2/11Southwell6f 16yStandardFlat6/11- 10(3)NarikoJ: Oisin MurphyT: Hugo Palmer44112-1Age 47/17/115/2

Dual winner of 6f handicaps last season and narrowly denied a hat-trick at Doncaster (6f, soft) on final start of that campaign. Best effort yet when adding to her tally on return at Goodwood (7f, good to soft) and, up just 2 lb, she is greatly respected with Oisin Murphy again in the hot-seat.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosGoodwood7fSoft (Good to Soft in places)Flat1/9Doncaster6f 2ySoftFlat2/9Salisbury6fHeavy (Soft in Places)Flat1/13Haydock Park6fSoftFlat1/15Nottingham6f 18yGoodFlat4/8- 2(8)Commanche FallsJ: Connor BeasleyT: Michael Dods58-7026Age 88/18/19/1

Winless since taking a listed event at York in September 2023 and while he put in a good shift when runner-up over this C&D on penultimate start, he has otherwise failed to fire on all cylinders so far this season.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosRipon6fGood (Good to Firm in places)Flat6/9Hamilton Park6f 6yGood (Good to Soft in places)Flat2/6York6fGood to Firm (Good in places)Flat10/16Leicester6fGood (Good to Firm in places)Flat7/11Doncaster6f 2ySoftFlat8/9- 8(15)VanthemanJ: Clifford LeeT: Kevin Ryan54-5042Age 410/114/111/1

Hit the target twice last year and his turn may again be near judged on his solid second to Brooklyn Nine Nine here (5f, good to firm) last time. Closely matched with stablemate Bergerac on a line through that rival and while Tom Eaves prefers the latter, he should have a part to play.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosHamilton Park5f 7yGoodFlat2/8Hamilton Park6f 6yGood (Good to Soft in places)Flat4/6York5fGood to Firm (Good in places)Flat11/17Newmarket (rowley)6fGood to SoftFlat5/13York5fSoft (Heavy in places)Flat4/17- 7(6)BergeracJ: Tom EavesT: Kevin Ryan-785214Age 711/19/110/1

Has gradually returned to the boil this season, opening his 2025 account over 5f here last month. Gave it a good shot when fourth of 14 at Newcastle next time and, with the return to this trip unlikely to be an issue, he has to enter calculations.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosNewcastle5fStandardFlat4/14Hamilton Park5f 7yGood to SoftFlat1/12York5fGood (Good to Firm in places)Flat2/13York6fGood to Firm (Good in places)Flat5/16Southwell6f 16yStandardFlat8/13- 15(11)TrilbyJ: Joe FanningT: Sam England-014704Age 512/112/111/1

Consistent type who registered 4 victories last term and back on the scoresheet at Beverley in April. Latest fourth of 12 to Bergerac over 5f here was a respectable effort, but this could be a shade too competitive for him.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosHamilton Park5f 7yGood to SoftFlat4/12Haydock Park6fGoodFlat14/16York5fGood to Firm (Good in places)Flat7/17Leicester6fGood (Good to Firm in places)Flat4/11Beverley5fGoodFlat1/7- 14(2)Jonny ConcreteJ: Andrew MullenT: Iain Jardine291-122Age 414/114/112/1

Struck gold twice at Ayr last season and arguably produced his best effort yet when making a winning reappearance at Musselburgh (7f, good) in April. Runner-up both subsequent starts in handicaps over this trip and it's not hard to envisage this 4-y-o playing a leading role here, too.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosYork6fGood to Firm (Good in places)Flat2/19Carlisle5f 182yGood to FirmFlat2/10Musselburgh7f 15yGoodFlat1/12Ayr6fGoodFlat1/9Ayr6fGoodFlat9/24- 5(9)Northern TickerJ: Paul MulrennanT: Michael Dods3113-0Age 316/112/114/1

Dual novice winner (AW/turf) at 2 and excellent close third in listed Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar final start. However, his reappearance at York (first run in handicap company) last month was not particularly encouraging, even allowing for the fact that the run may have been needed.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosYork6fGood to Firm (Good in places)Flat15/18Redcar5f 217ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Flat3/19Carlisle5f 182ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Flat1/10Newcastle6fStandard / SlowFlat1/8Carlisle5f 182yGood to FirmFlat3/10- 9(13)Eye Of DubaiJ: Jason HartT: John & Sean Quinn331-000Age 422/122/125/1

Improved in the second half of last season, taking 15-runner handicap at Doncaster (6f, heavy) in November. Out with the washing all 3 starts so far this year, though, and it's probably best to look elsewhere.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosChester6f 17ySoftFlat11/13Epsom Downs6f 3ySoftFlat10/11Doncaster6f 2yGoodFlat17/19Doncaster6f 2ySoftFlat1/15Doncaster6f 2ySoftFlat3/9- 11(1)Moonstone BoyJ: Mohammed Lyes TabtiT: Iain Jardine94-2150Age 422/122/125/1

Lightly-raced 5-y-o who was successful on only start at 3 yrs and stepped up on last season's return when a good fourth in listed company at Sandown (1m). Well held both starts this spring, but eased 4 lb since latest run at Newbury and, moreover, this drop in trip could be just what he needs.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosNewbury1mGood to FirmFlat11/11Kempton Park1m 1f 219yStandard / SlowFlat7/8Sandown Park1mGoodFlat4/8Goodwood1m 1f 11yGood to FirmFlat6/7Wolverhampton1m 142yStandardFlat1/10- 6(4)Venture CapitalJ: Shane GrayT: Kevin Ryan34-9107Age 428/128/133/1
