Knowing which teams are strongest at home is important when you’re looking at the Premier League betting markets. Making a home ground into a fortress is the bedrock of success for many teams, whether that’s upsetting the odds to avoid the drop, or battling for points in a race for continental qualification.

It’s not just a raucous atmosphere that leads to having proper home advantage in the Premier League. Sure, it helps, but there are other benefits to playing at home, like players getting to sleep in their own beds, and the sometimes-awkward travel arrangements away players have to deal with.

There have been some teams that have almost exclusively relied on getting results at home. Teams have stayed up while barely getting a point on the road. Jose Mourinho’s first stint at Chelsea was renowned the Blues’ prolonged unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge.

The impact of home advantage shouldn’t be downplayed by fans or bettors. It’s very rare a team is better on the road than at home. Teams that struggle at home are invariably set to underachieve – becoming hard to beat in front of your own fans is the bare minimum expectation.

Of course, this is added to when the home fans begin to turn on the team, which is far more likely when results aren’t going their way. Everton, Newcastle, and West Ham are three typical examples of teams that have had to deal with toxic home atmospheres at times, whether through anger at the players, manager, or even ownership.
