Everton vs Tottenham

Antonio Conte’s tenure finally came to an end during the international break, though there is scepticism about how much will really change for Tottenham with Cristian Stellini taking charge.

Everton have already made their big managerial change, swapping Frank Lampard for Sean Dyche. The move has had the desired impact, but the Toffees are still among the favourites for relegation in Premier League betting markets.

For all the scrutiny, and with just six wins from 14 matches in all competitions, Spurs are remarkably still a top four team. Harry Kane is having one of the most underrated great Premier League seasons.

This Tottenham team is injury-hit it. It is flawed, and many of its key names have underperformed. Still, they are in with a shot at another Champions League appearance in 2023-24.

Everton, though, are far from a walkover. Dyche has seen his team win three of four matches at Goodison Park since taking the job. Naturally, all have been won by one goal to nil.

It isn’t the prettiest football, but it is bruising, they are working hard, and the midfield is as solid as it gets. They will not allow space for Kane to drop deep and create. Other Spurs forwards have little chance of getting in behind the Toffees’ back line.

This is going to be a battle. Maybe Spurs enjoy a new manager bounce just from being away from the irritability and criticism of Conte. They surely need some sort of lift with four losses from their last five matches on the road.

With Spurs’ form and Everton’s renewed resilience at Goodison, how does a home win or draw have an implied probability of under 60%? If you can live with an odds-on price, the 7/10 on Everton to avoid defeat is the way to go here.

Tottenham Outright Betting This Season

888Sport betting markets tab Tottenham as the third-best Premier League team heading into the new season, yet there’s a chasm between the Lilywhites and the top two.

Spurs are way out at 14/1 to win their first Premier League title even after a summer of considerable investment in the first team squad, including Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Ivan Perisic.

Spurs are 4/7 to finish in the top four as they aim to build on a strong second half of 2021-22 under Antonio Conte.

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son are two of the preseason favourites for PFA Player of the Year at 11/1 and 16/1 respectively, and Kane is in at 6/1 to win the Golden Boot after Son took the honour last term.

Elsewhere, Spurs are 8/1 to win the FA Cup and the same price for the EFL Cup. Conte is unlikely to prioritise these competitions, but they have the necessary squad depth to be competitive even if they rotate, which wasn’t the case in prior seasons.

The Champions League is where a lot of attention will be on Spurs and Conte. The Italian has traditionally struggled in the competition – how will he fare in 2022-23? Is this the year Conte takes his team a long way into the knockouts?
