Premier League Match Day 29

Following the recent international break which included the opening round of qualifiers for Euro 2024, Premier League betting returns with a bang next weekend. Kicking off the action in Saturday’s lunchtime fixture is the not-so-small matter of Man City vs Liverpool.

Last season the two clubs duked it out for the Premier League title. The lay of the land is a little different this time around as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are back in the title race, but have a new foe on that front, in the shape of Arsenal.

Man City will start the weekend eight points behind leaders Arsenal, with a game in hand. So there’s no margin for error by City at the Etihad who are looking to extend their current league winning streak to four.

Liverpool, who suffered an away loss at relegation-threatened Bournemouth before the international break, are in a tough fight just to secure a top-six finish. A top-four berth isn’t totally out of the question for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who start the weekend seven points behind fourth-placed Spurs, with two games in hand.

Back in October when the two met, it was Liverpool who came out on top with a 1-0 victory at Anfield. The last five in the head-to-head between the clubs (all competitions) stands at one win each and three draws.

Arsenal will resume their title challenge later on Saturday as they play host to Leeds. Among Saturday’s other Premier League fixtures, there’s an interesting clash at the Amex of Brighton vs Brentford. That’s a big one in the context of both teams pushing forward to a potential top-six finish, as the Seagulls and Bees are locked together on 42 points in 7th and 8th respectively.

If sixth-placed Liverpool slip up at the Etihad earlier in the day, the interest in that Brighton vs Brentford fixture intensifies. Crystal Palace who saw Roy Hodgson return following the sacking of Patrick Vieira host Leicester, while Nottingham Forest vs Wolves and Chelsea vs Aston Villa round off the day's action.

There are two matches on Sunday, opening with West Ham vs Southampton, two of the current bottom three. Then follows Newcastle vs Man Utd with a focus on the Top 4 race with just three points separating the two teams. Matchday 29 of the Premier League closes on Monday night with Everton hosting Tottenham, who parted company with Antonio Conte on the weekend.

How to place bets on Premier League matches & seasons

England’s top 20 teams compete for the Premier League title, and qualification for Europe, by placing among the highest-placing sides in the table.

  • Teams finishing in the top four positions usually qualify for the group stage of next season’s UEFA Champions League, while the team finishing fifth typically qualifies for the Europa League group stage.
  • At the other end of the table, the three teams which finish at the bottom are relegated to The Championship. These are then replaced next season by the Championship’s top two teams, as well as the winners of the play-offs held between teams finishing third to sixth.

The popularity of English top-flight football has produced all manner of possibilities when it comes to odds on Premier League games – and the overall season itself.

Punters can choose between betting on blow-by-blow, minute-by-minute action, or play the long game with results and table predictions.

Match event betting

Bet on the big turning-points and results of the games themselves, including:

  • Cards – Tempers may boil over during a heated match, so pick which teams and players will see red, or how many cards the ref will produce over the full 90+ minutes.
  • Goals and goal scorers – Predict half-time and full-time scores, as well as who’s got their shooting boots on the right way round.
  • Results – Which team leaves the pitch with three crucial points? Or will the honours be even? Will it be a score draw or a bore draw? Odds are updated throughout the game.

Real stat anoraks can also bet on total offsides, fouls committed, corners taken and much more besides.

Latest English Premier League Odds

Who will rule the English top-flight in the 2022/23 season? Manchester City will be defending their title, in what is set to be an interesting season that includes a break for World Cup betting odds over the winter. The Citizens secured last season’s title on a dramatic final day, coming from behind at home to beat Aston Villa.

The victory saw Man City pip Liverpool by a single point in the Premier League title race. It was one of the most thrilling top-flight duels for the honours ever, with Man City and Liverpool setting such phenomenally high standards.

Not surprisingly, Manchester City, especially with the signing of the prolific goalscorer Erling Haaland, are the current favourites in the 2022/23 Premier League odds. They are striving for their fifth title in six seasons.

Man City and Liverpool both finished light years ahead of anyone else in the 2021/22 Premier League. Second-placed Liverpool finished an astonishing 18 points ahead of third-placed finishers Chelsea.

Punters will be wondering if any other teams can close the gap in this campaign, which may boil down to spending power. Chelsea will be hoping to come back stronger after a season of turmoil with an improved squad.

After a fourth-place finish last term, Tottenham, under the tutelage of former Premier League-winning manager Antonio Conte will be another team looking to strengthen. They already have a powerful combo up front in Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.

Will Manchester United be able to make up any ground after a disastrous 2021/22 campaign? Their new boss Erik Ten Hag will look to stamp positivity over the fallen giants. Premier League football betting odds suggest the Red Devils have a long way to go to get in the title race, however.

There will also be a lot of eyes on Newcastle. The Magpies received a massive injection of cash from a takeover, enough to potentially see them take some giant strides forward this season.

The Premier League odds are going to change as time rolls along, but for now, here are the current Premier League winner odds 2022/23.

Premier League Odds 2022/23

Manchester City 4/7

Liverpool 2/1

Premier League Facts and Stats

The Premier League was inaugurated in 1992/93 after a huge shake-up at the top of the English game. The former First Division was no more as along came a behemoth of the new Premier League at the top of the tiers.

There were 22 teams in the inaugural season of the competition and the only ever-present clubs are Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool Tottenham and Man Utd.

The early days of the Premier League were dominated by Manchester United and they are only one of seven clubs to have been crowned Premier League champions.

Manchester United - During Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at the club, Manchester United were almost untouchable. They won the first edition of the Premier League, dominating the 90s and 2000s. The Red Devils racked up 13 EPL titles, but the most recent was back in 2013.

Manchester City - It’s hard to remember that the Citizens were relegated from the Premier League in 2001. They are now one of the standard-setters in the division, winning four of the five previous titles, and last season was their sixth.

Chelsea - The Blues are five-time Premier League champions, but even they have found it hard to live with the power and class of Man City and Liverpool recently. The last title for the Blues was in the 2016/17 season.

Premier League Titles by numbers

  • Man Utd 13
  • Manchester City 6
  • Chelsea 5
  • Arsenal 3
  • Blackburn Rovers 1
  • Leicester City 1
  • Liverpool 1

Arsenal - Arsenal’s duels with Manchester United in the Premier League title race, were something to behold. The first Premier League title for the Gunners came in 1998 and in the 2003/04 campaign their ‘Invincibles’ lifted the crown without losing a single match.

Blackburn Rovers - Rovers were the first team besides Manchester United to win the Premier League, fired to success by England's great Alan Shearer. The Championship side are the only former winners not to currently be in the top flight.

Leicester City - The 2015/16 season of the top flight saw Leicester’s remarkable title. From out of the blue the 500/1 shots defied the massive odds under manager Claudio Ranieri to produce a shock title win.

Liverpool - The Reds have only got their hands on the Premier League title once, and they had to wait a long time to get it. Their breakthrough came in the 2019/20 season but are second-favourites to land the title in 2022/23 Premier League odds.
