888sport stories

Gerwyn Price’s journey to the top of the darts world is one of the great sporting stories. He failed as a rugby player but has thrived since making the transition to the oche.

While he wasn’t always a top name in darts betting odds, Price has gone from strength to strength and ‘The Iceman’ is now the number one player in the world.

The pinnacle of his career undoubtedly came at the 2021 PDC World Championship as he defeated Gary Anderson to become the first Welshman to win the competition.

Price remains arguably the most underrated player in darts despite his success, with the wider sports community donning Michael van Gerwen as the best in the business.

However, the PDC Order of Merit rankings don’t lie and Price is some way clear of his closest rival. Could that all change in the coming months? Only time will tell.

Fans of the Welshman will be interested to learn about his estimated wealth and career earnings. Here, we look at Gerwyn Price net worth figures…

Gerwyn Price Estimated Wealth

While Price failed to make it as an elite rugby player, he has taken the world of darts by storm and his estimated net worth has grown at a rapid rate of knots.

According to various online sources, the estimated Gerwyn Price net worth figure is in the region of £750,000 to £1.5 million.

Given his career prize money and earnings, this figure sounds accurate and should increase if Price continues to dominate at the top of the darts world rankings.

With various endorsement deals secured as a result of his World Championship success, the Iceman is building a brand and he could be the face of the sport in the near future.

Price relishes the chance to play the pantomime villain – if anything it spurs him on to take his game to new heights as he strives to become an all-time oche great.

Gerwyn Price Career Earnings

Having climbed up the darts world rankings in recent years, the total amount of prize money won by Gerwyn Price has soared – particularly since winning the World Championship.

The Iceman won his first televised title in 2018, clinching victory in the Grand Slam of Darts to firmly put himself on the darting map.

That triumph earned him the maximum payout of £110,000 and he retained his title 12 months later, adding another £125,000 to his career prize money tally.

According to the Darts Database, Price’s career earnings are now just shy of £1.5 million. On current form, you can only see that figure rising in the coming months.

Money was the main motivation for Price in his early darts career but the Welshman told The Guardian that his ambition and hunger for success is growing.

“I wasn’t bothered about winning tournaments at the beginning,” Price said.

“I just wanted to win enough money so I could stay on the tour and earn a living for my family.”

Gerwyn Price Rugby

Growing up as a young boy in Wales, it’s hardly a shock to hear that Gerwyn Price wanted to be a professional rugby player.

And as it turned out, Price was pretty good at the sport. In fact, he rose through the ranks and played for Welsh Premier Division sides Neath and Cross Keys.

Eventually, Price earned himself a shot at Pro14 giants Glasgow Warriors after the Scottish side were forced to look for cover for injured players.

However, he never really managed to reach the summits of the sport and made the decision to switch from rugby in 2014. And what a decision it was…

Price also tried his hand at rugby league with the South Wales Scorpions for a brief period. If his rugby career had taken off, he never would’ve matured into one of the top darts players in the world.

Gerwyn Price Wife

Is Gerwyn Price married? The answer is yes. Price and Bethan Palmer have dated since they were 17 years old and tied the knot back in 2018.

Palmer is a supportive wife, helping Price to steer clear of trolls on social media by taking control of his accounts.

Price spoke about missing his wife Bethan whilst on tour but she is often captured at events – particularly those local to the United Kingdom.

The Welshman and his family have been the centre of social media abuse on more than one occasion but Bethan has been there to support throughout.

“They’ve gone through hell and back with the way I’ve been playing, I’ve put them under the cosh. I let them back in and put the family under pressure,” said Price.

“I think the wife’s got no nails left. Thankfully I’ve come through those games and there wasn’t too much pressure on them in the final.”

Darts betting tips have Price as one of the favourites for the PDC World Championship crown in 2022. There could be a few nail-biting evenings ahead for Bethan!

Gerwyn Price Family

Price and his family are based in the South Wales village of Markham, having purchased their current property in 2018.

The world number one is father to two daughters; Emily and Bethany and he has worked hard to ensure a comfortable lifestyle for his girls and his wife.

While Gerwyn Price is hitting a nine dart finish on the big stage, his family seem happy in South Wales and they are all proud of their Welsh roots.
