The celebrity contingent of any fanbase is typically a broad church. There will be actors among the ranks, as well as singers and sports stars. Inevitably a politician or two will declare an allegiance, if only to suggest that behind their robotic smiles they are human like the rest of us.

Throw in a famous chef and a best-selling author and usually every base is covered.

Oddly though, that is not the case with Rangers, despite the Glasgow giant being a behemoth of Scottish football and historically highly successful.

The Gers have a legion of famous fans for sure, yet it’s remarkable how many of them are pop stars and rappers, so many in fact that we could easily have filled our top ten below exclusively with songsmiths.

Robbie Williams

The pop megastar will forever be associated with Port Vale, his hometown club. The Valiants named him Club President in 2024, perhaps to finally put to bed rumours of a takeover bid from the uber-rich entertainer.

Yet in 1994, it was revealed where his heart lies north of the border, Williams adorning a Rangers jersey as he left Ibrox following an Old Firm derby.

Tinchy Stryder

Born in Ghana but raised in London, the rapper initially pursued a footballing dream before making it big in the music business. A talented forward, he spent six years at the academies of AFC Wimbledon and Leyton Orient.

Considering himself a poacher Kwasi Esono Danquah III – the rapper’s real name – looked up first and foremost to Ally McCoist, and it was his admiration of the prolific goal-getter that led to a long-standing love for Rangers.

When the Light Blues secured promotion back to the big time in 2016, he simply tweeted ‘My Gs’ complete with a clapping emoji.

James Arthur

The X-Factor winner inherited a love for the Gers from his father and proudly showcases his support at every opportunity.

In 2022, on a Canadian radio station, he sang a medley of Rangers chants, including one celebrating the midfield marauding of John Lundstram.

Two years after his reality TV success, Arthur’s ultimate dream came true when he was invited to train with the Rangers first team squad.

Marti Pellow

Born in Clydebank, just a few miles west of Ibrox, Pellow has been a regular fixture at games since childhood, in that time seeing the Gers enjoy sustained success before slumping into liquidation in 2012.

It is a rollercoaster ride that mirrors his own fortunes, riding high in the charts with Wet Wet Wet before succumbing to drug and alcohol addiction.

It’s fitting therefore that the singer met his long-term partner Eileen Catterson – the person he credits with helping turn his life back around – at a Rangers game.

Simon Neil

The Biffy Clyro frontman is often spotted in the director’s box at Ibrox, cheering on the boys, presumably quite tunefully.

Though tour commitments limit his visits these days he remains an avid supporter, extending on a lifelong devotion to the blue half of Glasgow.

"The first game I went to see was Rangers v Motherwell when I was five,” he recently shared. “I remember it vividly because I wrote a big story about it at school.”

Lulu

Rangers fans haven’t had a lot to ‘shout’ about of late, slipping down the sports betting and playing second fiddle to their hated rivals across the city.

Sixties songstress Lulu though has seen such dips before. From a lifetime of being an affirmed supporter she knows how cyclical the Glasgow duopoly can be.

The singer gained extra Ger points when appearing on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel in 2021. When questioned about her Scottish roots she yelled out ‘We are the people!’, a slogan closely associated with the club.

Tom Stoltman

We could continue with the musicians. Honestly, we could go all night.

There is Amy MacDonald for starters, wife of former Rangers star Richard Foster. There is also half of Travis to consider as well as the singer-songwriter Callum Beattie.

Let’s have a change of pace though by showcasing Tom Stoltman’s devotion to the Light Blues, the 31-year-old hard to miss when taking in a game at his beloved Ibrox.

That’s because, weighing in at 27 stone and measuring up at 6ft 8, Stoltman is a three-time winner of the World’s Strongest Man.

Robert Carlyle

That’s right, Begbie is a Ger. Or in part, anyway.

The truth is that the acclaimed actor’s first true love is Partick Thistle, Carlyle ensuring that he takes his two sons to Firhill at least twice a year.

Yet he also candidly admits to having a lifelong affiliation with Rangers, an affection that only grew when he trained with the squad when preparing for a film role.

Frank Lampard

Presently pulling up trees with Coventry City in the Championship, Lampard has recently been linked to the vacant Rangers position, it being widely reported that the England legend is a long-standing Rangers fan.

This is all well and good but with the Sky Blues now favourites in the football betting to go up this year it feels extremely unlikely that a switch may occur. As for the future, who knows?

Cameron Menzies

The British Open darts champion is a popular figure on the circuit, a larger than life Oche-man who does Scotland proud.

He is also known for being the boyfriend of fellow darts superstar Fallon Sherrock and for being a Rangers nut.

“She wears my old Rangers kits around the house,” he once revealed to a tabloid, admitting that most of them no longer fit him after putting on a bit of timber.

Menzies has previously been inspired by good luck messages sent from Rangers stars ahead of big games.
