It’s a long time since Wolves were a force in the topflight of English football. This is still a big, well-supported club, however, with a rich history of success dating back to the 19th century.

Wolves have spent the vast majority of their history in and around the top division. Considered a yoyo club for periods of the 21st century, there have equally been spells of justified excitement, including a European League jaunt in 2019/20.

Here are a selection of famous Wolves fans:

Andy Murray

How did a proud Scot end up a Wolves fan? Well, Andy Murray’s former coach David Lloyd was a massive Wolves fan, which led to Murray becoming a supporter.

The former Wimbledon champion was often seen sporting a Wolves top during his tennis career and received a signed jersey in 2013.

Eric Idle

Enrolled in the Royal Wolverhampton School as a border at seven years of age, Eric Idle soon became a Wolves fan.

Born in 1943, Idle speaks fondly of the Wolves teams of the late 1950s and the 1960s. A member of true comedy royalty has remained a Wolves fan to this day.

Suzi Perry

Suzi Perry has been an advocate for Wolverhampton throughout her successful presenting career. A committed fan of the club, Perry was born in Shropshire but grew up in Wolverhampton.

Best known for her work in motorsport, Perry became an ambassador for the Wolves Foundation in 2024.

At the time of the announcement, she said, “I’m from Wolverhampton – I was born in Wolverhampton and went to school and college here,” she says. “I grew up as a Wolves fan and my DNA is very much old gold and black.

“Wherever I have been in the world, I have always considered myself to be a Wolf, batting off some of the stuff that people say about Wolverhampton whether it’s the fun accent that we have or the area that we are from.”

Robert Plant

A Wolves fan since childhood, Robert Plant is not only one of the most iconic frontmen in rock, he’s gone on to become a member of the club’s board and a patron of the Wolves Foundation.

Plant has even worked on remixes of Led Zeppelin hits for players to walk out to at Molineux.

Jacqui Oatley

Wolverhampton born and bred, Jacqui Oatley has been a trailblazer in sports media, becoming the first woman to commentate on Match of the Day and the UK’s first ever female darts presenter.

Oatley makes no secret of her Wolves fandom – she’s often tweeting about the club in a personal capacity.

Steve Edge

Best known for his work in Phoenix Nights, Steve Edge is an actor and former stand-up comedian.

He was born in Cannock and has made his Wolves fandom clear on social media.
