Today’s top Leeds United transfer news story surrounds Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn, with reports suggesting that he could head to Elland Road on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Leeds in the past, though a move failed to materialise when Gunn made the switch from Manchester City to Southampton.

According to Football Insider, Leeds are keeping a close eye on Gunn ahead of October’s transfer deadline. To suggest that the goalkeeper situation at Elland Road is ‘up in the air’ is an understatement to say the least…

Illan Meslier has taken over the number one role but Leeds fans have doubts over whether he is consistent enough to keep the Whites in the Premier League.

Having conceded seven goals in his first two league games of the season, you can see why the Elland Road hierarchy are considering other options.

With Southampton reportedly keen on Gunn heading out on loan for additional game time, Leeds looks the ideal landing spot for the 24-year-old before the transfer window comes to an end.

Gunn is now third choice goalkeeper at St Mary’s and Saints are unlikely to move him up the rankings with two established shot stoppers in the squad.

Leeds supporters will be following updates regarding this Leeds United player rumour very closely as October’s deadline edges closer.

Finances The Issue In Jose Campana Bid

Levante midfielder Jose Campana has been tipped to join Leeds this summer but it looks like transfer spending at Elland Road could get in the way of a move.

According to reports in Spain, Leeds may find it difficult to force a deal through before the end of the current window. Levante value Campana at £27.6 million but Leeds have already invested heavily this year.

With Levante president Quico Catalan insisting that there is no room to budge on the club’s valuation, Leeds could miss out on Campana unless Marcelo Bielsa can convince the board to sanction additional finances.

Campana was the subject of strong interest from Sevilla last season and the player has been unsettled since. A move to the Premier League would offer a fresh start and Leeds looks the perfect fit.

Based purely on Super Deporte’s report, a move for Campana is likely to be deemed almost impossible following Leeds’ swoop for Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente.

The Sociedad star is set to move to Elland Road after the clubs agreed an £18 million fee for the defender and Leeds’ total spending this summer now totals £80 million.

Unfortunately for the Whites, there is no magic money tree at Elland Road so it wouldn’t be a shock to see Leeds pass on Campana. We might even see a departure or two before the end of the summer…
