The Queen Mother Champion Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt race at the Cheltenham Festival, run over a distance of 2 miles with 12 fences to be jumped in total.

This season’s renewal will take place on Wednesday 11th March 2026.

Entry Fees And Declarations

  • Enter by noon, January 6th and pay £500 stake.
  • Scratch by noon on February 3rd or pay £1000.

  • Supplementary entry by noon, March 5th and pay £16,000 stake.
  • Declare by 10.00 a.m. March 9th.

Weights

  • Weights: 11st 10lb each
  • Mares allowance = 7lb

Presentations will be made to the winning owner, trainer and jockey and a £250 award to the stable employee judged to be in charge of the best turned out horse in this race.

A Challenge Trophy presented by The Steeplechase Company (Cheltenham) Ltd, is to be held by the winning owner until February 1st, next year.

All number cloths to be carried in this race have been sponsored.

The sponsorship payment of £500 will be distributed equally amongst all horses starting in this race in accordance with paragraphs 24 to 27 of the Stakes and Prize Money Code.

There will be a parade for this race. Runners will be led past the stands before turning and cantering to the start.

Reigning champion Marine Nationale, Il Etait Temps and Sir Gino are amongst the 24 entries received on Jan 6th for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Owned and trained by Barry Connell, Marine Nationale was a visually impressive winner last season and went on to follow up at the Punchestown Festival. He will be a popular pick to return the silverware back to the mantelpiece at home.

Willie Mullins’ Energumene and Henry de Bromhead’s Captain Guineas are both previous winners bidding to top the pile once more, while Majborough also has the option to run in this contest.

Dan Skelton’s has shown his intentions with L’Eau Du Sud and Thistle Ask, while Joseph O’Brien’s Solness and the smart novice Irish Panther are also in the reckoning.
