What is it about Sevilla and the Europa League? The Spanish giants are the most successful club in the history of the competition and another trophy could be on the cards.
Standing in their way is Jose Mourinho and AS Roma. With the La Liga side fighting to finish fifth in Serie A, this is their only route to Champions League qualification next season.
Football betting markets are relatively split ahead of this clash, with Sevilla as very narrow favourites to clinch a seventh Europa League success.
Sevilla have been outstanding in the second half of 2022/23 and many will fancy Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side to get the job done in Budapest on Wednesday night.
However, Mourinho has made a career out of winning as an underdog and the Portuguese will be relishing the opportunity to add yet another European trophy to his resumé.
A tight game can be expected whenever a Mourinho side is in action and I’m expecting a typically cagey affair at the Puskas Arena.
Sevilla have the history and the experience but Roma have a crafty manager and the Serie A side can profit from his wealth of knowledge to thrive on the big stage.
With that in mind, I’m offering up two picks for Wednesday’s showpiece. First and foremost, under 2.5 goals is well worth a chance given Roma’s steely defensive unit.
But my main tip here is for a Mourinho masterclass. Back Roma to win to nil in 90 minutes for this cliché to well and truly land in Wednesday’s Europa League final.
FA Cup Picks
Manchester City vs Manchester United
Handicap - Manchester City (-1)
The second leg of Manchester City’s potential treble is up this weekend. History is being made with a Manchester derby in the FA Cup final, even if the event is considerably impacted by a train strike.
United have the opportunity to complete a domestic cup double and protect their status as the only league, FA Cup and Champions League treble winners in English football history.
City are massive 1/4 sports betting favourites to lift the trophy. Winning the league with time to spare, Pep Guardiola has been able to rotate his squad in preparation for these two finals.

Regardless of the quality of the opponent, Guardiola has seen his team dominate and often blow teams away.
United are stubborn enough to be difficult, but is that enough to upset the odds here? Probably not.
City are a juggernaut. You can point to potential charges or mock the money spent on assembling this squad, but they are simply one of the greatest teams in the history of English football.
Win on Saturday and defeat Inter a week later, and they will have a strong case as the greatest. Take City -1 at 4/5 – the chance to rest over the last couple of gameweeks could prove pivotal.
European Picks
PSG vs Clermont
Win Both Halves - Paris Saint-Germain
Despite a draw at Strasbourg, PSG were crowned Ligue 1 champions yet again at the weekend.
Their turbulent season wraps up with the visit of Clermont Foot, with the away side sitting in eighth place.
Wins over Lorient and Lyon in two of their last three matches have done little for Clermont Foot, who are locked into a mid-table finish as the final gameweek approaches.
PSG might have been held by lowly Strasbourg, yet they are still heavy sports betting favourites for this matchup. Kylian Mbappe is only one goal ahead of Alexandre Lacazette in the race to finish top scorer.
Christophe Galtier led PSG to a ninth title in 11 seasons, but there’s no escaping that this hasn’t been a great campaign. Their Champions League journey ended prematurely.
League form has been patchy by PSG standards. Still, the Frenchman was feisty in his post-match press conference, arguing he deserves another year.
"I deserve a second season at Paris Saint-Germain! I repeat it once again because no one wants to hear it but it was a very special season.
"We had to stay the course even when we thought everyone had their heads under water. I pay tribute to my players who have not given up. I am very happy and I don't want us to trivialize [this title win]!"
Whether the cutthroat PSG hierarchy agree with Galtier’s assessment of this season remains to be seen.
He is clearly on the brink, amid rumours that Jose Mourinho could be his successor. This match is unlikely to have any bearing on PSG’s decision, but it is a chance to end this campaign on a high.
Clermont Foot have lost the last three matches by an aggregate of 15-1. It might not be a drubbing of that scale, yet a PSG win by a couple of goals seems inevitable.
Back the hosts to win both halves at 21/20.
Serie A Picks
Udinese vs Juventus
A miserable end to the season continued for Juventus at the weekend with a defeat at home to Milan.
The reinstatement of their points deduction was a blow to Max Allegri’s side, who are left down in seventh after briefly returning to the Champions League places.
They are still football betting favourites for their matchup with Udinese, however. Allegri continued to bemoan the points deduction after Juve’s loss to Milan.
His team, though, have not finished the season on the front foot, losing three straight across all competitions. It is only four wins from their last 15 for the Old Lady.
Udinese, too, have lost three in a row, as they settle for mid-table mediocrity. They haven’t beaten Juventus since 2020.
At the weekend, Allegri was open about his feelings on this season.
“It’s sad to say it, but our season ended in Seville. That is where we ran out of mental energy. We got the marking wrong on the cross and Giroud scored a great header, but it was still a goal we could’ve avoided.
“As I said, it has been an anomalous season, the team put together 69 points, so we should be proud and thank them for what they did. If what happened off the field had not happened, we’d still be qualified for the Champions League.”
He continued, appearing to manage expectations while talking up the core of this squad.
“We must calmly evaluate and realise there are good foundations, it is not all to be thrown away. The biggest mistake would be getting rid of those foundations when building the future of Juventus.
“My primary hope is that before August 20 this time we are told how many points we are penalised rather than going back and forth constantly…
“There are some teams who spent six years without being in the top four. On the field, we were in third place. We played the Europa League semi-final and the Coppa Italia semi-final.
“Football gives, football takes away, just like life. We will emerge fortified from this situation. But some teams qualified for the Champions League because we had 10 points taken away. Everyone can agree on that, can’t they?”
Those comments do not look like a Juventus team ready to compete in Udine. This is a team resigned to its fate, a team which switched off a couple of weeks ago and has clearly been suffering from mental fatigue.
Udinese have lost just three times at home this season – they will not have a better chance to end their winless streak against the Old Lady.
