While Leeds United transfer news reports state that Dan James could leave Old Trafford for Elland Road, a move for Manchester United teammate Sergio Romero also looks likely.

Romero has failed to displace David de Gea on a regular basis despite major concerns over the Spaniard’s performances over the past 18 months.

With Dean Henderson returning to the club after spending last season on loan at Sheffield United, Romero is now viewed as the third-choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

With that in mind, reports claim that Romero is a target for two Premier League rivals: Leeds United and Everton. The 33-year-old is still capable of performing at the highest level.

Romero was left out of the Europa League semi-final clash with Sevilla and that is said to be a major turning point in his relationship with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Leeds are currently rolling with youngster Illan Meslier as their top goalkeeper right now but Romero would bring crucial Premier League experience to Elland Road.

In terms of fit, Romero is likely to prefer a chance to play under compatriot Marcelo Bielsa, especially with Jordan Pickford locked into the number one role at Everton.

At 33 years old, Romero is at the end of his career but he can play a key role for Leeds as the Whites look to build a competitive Premier League squad going forward.

Gotts And Stevens Set To Go Out On Loan

Two of the club’s most talented young players have been linked with loan deals this summer but Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa will only sanction the deals once the club have finished their own transfer activity.

According to The Sun On Sunday, Gotts and Stevens are likely to depart on loan before the end of the transfer window. Leeds are operating a ‘one in, one out’ transfer policy so both players are relying on other deals.

Bielsa has always focused primarily on bringing youth players through the ranks and he must view Gotts and Stevens as part of his long term plans to consider a loan switch.

Gotts’ departure ties in with Adam Forshaw’s return from injury. It makes complete sense, with Leeds’ depth in midfield taking a significant step in the right direction once Forshaw is back.

On the other hand, Stevens is likely to be replaced by a new signing coming in. Bielsa will want to keep Stevens on the books though going forward, with the Leeds starlet showing all the credentials to enjoy success on the big stage.

The clock is ticking and Leeds will be determined to finish their business well in advance of transfer deadline day. However, Bielsa may have a trick or two up his sleeve as we approach the start of October.
