Mexico enter the 2026 World Cup with an excellent chance of progressing into the knockout rounds. The 2022 edition was the first time since 1978 that Mexico have failed to make it out of the group stage, despite never being among the football betting favourites.

This squad doesn’t have the high-profile names of some previous Mexican squads, but it’s still a group with enough talent to upset the odds. Home advantage, of course, is going to be key for El Tri - even if they are unlikely to be lifting the World Cup trophy this summer.

What is the average salary for Mexico players?

Thirty-eight of the 55 players named in Mexico’s preliminary squad play in Liga MX. Players at the top Liga MX clubs can earn several million pounds per year, while others will be on closer to £500,000.

The highest earners are likely to be the players in Europe’s top leagues. Mexico have several players across England, Spain, and Italy.

Who is the top earning players for Mexico?

Milan’s Santiago Giménez, Fulham’s Raúl Jiménez, and Fenerbahçe’s Edson Álvarez are considered Mexico’s highest-earning players.

Jiménez is reportedly on £100,000. Álvarez is on around £94,000. Giménez is on approximately £85,000, with the figures varying from different sources.

How much does the Mexico manager earn?

Javier Aguirre has a salary of £2.17 million, according to reports.

Aguirre has had two other stints in charge of Mexico and has managed several live betting giants, including Atletico Madrid, Egypt, and Japan.

He’s handsomely compensated for his work, but there are several other managers earning considerably more at the 2026 World Cup.
