Portugal’s sports betting odds to win the 2026 World Cup have shortened drastically in the build-up to the tournament.
Historically, Portugal have underachieved on the biggest stage, but this is arguably the strongest all-around squad they have ever taken to a major tournament.
They should dispatch the likes of Uzbekistan, DR Congo and Colombia in the initial group stage but who knows how they will fare when push comes to shove at the business end of the competition.
What is the average salary for Portugal players?
The average salary in Portugal’s 2026 World Cup squad is around £125,000. There are several very highly paid players in the group, with a decent portion playing for Champions League regulars and/or clubs renowned for high wages like Manchester City and Manchester United.
Very few players will be on less than £50,000 per week. Mallorca’s Samú Costa is one of the exceptions, along with Benfica defender Tomás Araújo.
Who are the top earning players for Portugal?
Cristiano Ronaldo is on around £3.5 million per week at Al-Nassr. Ronaldo has the third-largest contract in sports history. His club teammate João Félix is on roughly £300,000 per week, as is Al-Hilal’s Rúben Neves.
There are plenty of other high earners in the squad. Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City’s Rúben Dias join Neves and Félix in the £300,000 ballpark.
How much does the Portugal manager earn?
Roberto Martínez is on a reported £3.5 million per year as Portugal manager. The Spaniard has been in the job since 2023 and oversaw Portugal’s quarter-final exit at the Euros in 2024.
Previously in charge of Belgium for six years, Martínez has plenty of tournament experience to call on this summer.
