Kim Roque
British-trained runners have largely held sway in this in recent years, but KIM ROQUE is taken to strike for his top Irish yard. He probably would've given the winner a scare but for a mistake at the last on his first run for Joseph O'Brien here last month and improvement is on the cards. Jagwar is 2-2 over C&D and will surely have a big say if fully tuned-up, while Vincenzo and Hoe Joly Smoke filled the places in the Paddy Power and they both have strong claims, along with Martator.

Good-looking sort who improved at a rate of knots switched to fences last season, winning 4 of his 5 starts including Timeform Novices' Handicap in January and Plate at the Festival in March (both over this C&D). Up 9 lb for latter success, but he's only a 6-y-o and probably has more to offer.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 4f 127yGood to SoftChase1/20Cheltenham2m 4f 127ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/7Uttoxeter2m 4fSoft (Good to Soft in Places)Chase3/5Bangor-on-dee2m 4f 72ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/15Wetherby2m 3f 85yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase1/8- 7VincenzoJ: Dylan JohnstonT: Sam Thomas61212-2Age 77/27/24/1

Likeable sort who was successful on 2 of his first 3 starts over fences at around 2m last winter and took his form up a notch when second in the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury in March. Another big effort when runner-up in the Paddy Power on return last month and he's a must for the shortlist.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 4f 44ySoft (Heavy in places)Chase2/12Newbury2m 3f 187ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase2/14Sandown Park1m 7f 99ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/7Cheltenham2m 62ySoftChase2/3Windsor2m 33yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase1/5- 10Kim RoqueJ: Richard DeeganT: Joseph Patrick O'Brien, Ireland6-1B422Age 55/15/19/2

Fairly useful winning hurdler/chaser in France and very encouraging start for new connections when runner-up in a novices' handicap on the Old Course here (20.2f, soft) last month. Jumped with aplomb save for a mistake at the final fence that day and this unexposed 5-y-o is interesting.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 4f 44ySoftChase2/6Dieppe2m 5f 192ySoftChase2/11Auteuil2m 1f 197yVery softHurdle4/16Auteuil2m 5f 192yVery softChasebd/16Dieppe2m 3f 85ySoftChase1/15- 9Hoe Joly SmokeJ: Harry SkeltonT: Dan Skelton151P-33Age 76/15/111/2

Improved switched to fences last term, winning twice at Sandown. Has shown himself to be fully effective round here with fine efforts in back-to-back big handicaps since returning to action in October, latterly finishing third of 12 in the Paddy Power. Strong each-way claims from an unchanged mark.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 4f 44ySoft (Heavy in places)Chase3/12Cheltenham3m 1fGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase3/18Sandown Park3m 4f 146yGoodChasepu/19Sandown Park3m 37yGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/6Newbury3m 1f 214yGood to SoftChase5/9- 4Imperial SaintJ: Sean HoulihanT: Philip Hobbs & Johnson White71342-5Age 79/19/110/1

Won 3 times over fences at Aintree last term and solid second in a valuable contest at the Grand National meeting during the spring. Below par on return in the Old Roan, but he's consistent on the whole and performed well when third in a major C&D handicap on sole previous visit here in January.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosAintree2m 3f 200yGood to SoftChase5/7Aintree3m 210yGoodChase2/12Kempton Park2m 4f 110yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase4/6Cheltenham2m 4f 127ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase3/11Aintree2m 3f 200yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase1/5- 6Il RidotoJ: Harry CobdenT: Paul Nicholls6807-28Age 89/19/110/1

Better than ever when seeing off Ga Law in last season's Paddy Power Gold Cup here. Followed that with a series of lesser efforts, though, including when sixth in this race 12 months ago, and was again below his best when bidding to follow up in this year's Paddy Power.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 4f 44ySoft (Heavy in places)Chase8/12Chepstow2m 3f 98yGood to Firm (Good in places)Chase2/4Cheltenham2m 4f 127yGoodChase7/10Cheltenham2m 4f 127yGood to SoftChase12/20Cheltenham2m 4f 127ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase8/11- 3Colonel HarryJ: Gavin SheehanT: Jamie Snowden4/20F-1Age 810/110/111/1

Useful chaser who was successful twice as a novice (at up to 19.4f), including in Grade 2 company. Endured a truncated campaign last term, but perfect start to this season when landing the Grand Sefton at Aintree (21f, good) and likely to remain competitive following a 4 lb rise.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosAintree2m 5f 19yGood to SoftChase1/17Cheltenham2m 4f 127ySoftChaseF/8Newbury3m 1f 214yGood to SoftChase11/13Carlisle2m 3f 210yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase2/4Aintree2m 3f 200ySoft (Heavy in places)Chase4/5- 1Ga LawJ: Isabelle RyderT: Jamie Snowden95PP3-3Age 911/114/112/1

Twice a winner of major handicaps round here, the latest over C&D off a 4 lb lower mark in January 2024. Ended last term with a good effort in a Sandown Grade 2 and entitled to come on for his reappearance spin at Wetherby, but he nevertheless looks vulnerable under top-weight.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosWetherby3m 45yGoodChase3/5Sandown Park2m 6f 164yGoodChase3/9Aintree2m 5f 19yGood to SoftChasepu/30Cheltenham2m 7f 213yGood to SoftHurdlepu/13Newbury2m 7f 86ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase5/7- 5MartatorJ: Charlie DeutschT: Venetia Williams7608-52Age 812/112/114/1

Form tailed off after back-to-back Ascot handicap victories last November and ran no sort of a race on return at Exeter. However, much more like it when finding just one too good back at Ascot (16.8f, soft) 3 weeks ago and he's equally effective at this trip and on left-hand tracks. Key player.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosAscot2m 172yGood to SoftChase2/10Exeter2m 1f 109yGoodChase5/6Plumpton2m 214yGoodChase8/10Cheltenham1m 7f 199yGood to SoftChase10/20Sandown Park1m 7f 99yHeavy (Soft in places)Chase6/6- 8Es PerfectoJ: Tom BellamyT: Alan King16415-PAge 1022/118/120/1

Dual winner over fences last season, latterly at Sandown in February, and continued the good work when fifth in C&D Grade 2 novices' handicap at the Festival in March, edged out of the frame close home. However, reappearance effort in the Paddy Power was poor and he now has a bit to prove.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 4f 44ySoft (Heavy in places)Chasepu/12Cheltenham2m 4f 127yGood to SoftChase5/19Sandown Park2m 4f 10yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase1/6Windsor2m 6f 41ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase4/14Kempton Park2m 4f 110yGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase6/8- 11GlengoulyJ: Sean BowenT: Faye Bramley-7PP034Age 928/128/125/1

One-time useful chaser for Willie Mullins and got it together for this yard when making the frame at Aintree and here (both at around 2m) last month. Moving back up in trip won't hurt, but the quality of the opposition and fact that he's 7 lb 'wrong' at the weights are potential stumbling blocks.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham1m 7f 199ySoftChase4/11Aintree1m 7f 176yGood to SoftChase3/9Uttoxeter2m 3f 207yGoodHurdle10/10Market Rasen2m 5f 89ySoftChasepu/8Market Rasen2m 5f 89yGoodChasepu/6
