Charging Thunder
Though CHARGING THUNDER failed to land a blow returned to this sphere at Cheltenham, he is appealing now pitched into a lower-grade handicap off 2 lb lower and, perhaps crucially, back on a sharper track. Diesel Line has barely put a foot wrong since joining this yard and he should again be on the premises, while Fourtowns and Kingston Sunflower also command respect.

Fit from the Flat when striking on first run over hurdles for the best part of 2 years at Ludlow (15.8f, good to firm) last month, quickening clear on the run-in. 7 lb rise should be manageable for this C&D winner and strong claims granted a sound surface. Yard also represented by Castel Gandolfo.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosLudlow1m 7f 169yGood to FirmHurdle1/6Wolverhampton1m 5f 219yStandardFlat7/12Bath1m 6fFirm (Good to Firm in places)Flat2/12Wolverhampton2m 120yStandardFlat3/9Bath1m 6fGoodFlat3/10- 4Charging ThunderJ: Gavin SheehanT: James Owen114-9Age 73/13/111/4

Won 2 of his 3 starts over hurdles last season and successful twice on the Flat this year (both on AW). Nearer last than first returned to this sphere at Cheltenham (16.4f, good) recently, but eased 2 lb since and needs considering in this lower-grade handicap (sharper track will also help).DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 87yGood to SoftHurdle9/12York2m 56yGood to Firm (Good in places)Flat13/13Wolverhampton1m 5f 219yStandardFlat1/12Beverley2m 32yGoodFlat2/3Newcastle2m 56yStandardFlat3/20- 8Diesel LineJ: Charlie ToddT: Charles & Adam Pogson3-21413Age 77/29/24/1

Has done well for this yard, winning twice over 2m at Uttoxeter and possibly hit the front sooner than ideal when third of 14 over that C&D last time. Will need to produce a clear personal-best in order to defy this mark, but he's clearly in good heart and is one to consider.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosUttoxeter1m 7f 168yGoodHurdle3/14Uttoxeter1m 7f 168yGoodHurdle1/13Stratford-on-avon2m 70yGood to FirmHurdle4/11Uttoxeter1m 7f 168yGoodHurdle1/14Uttoxeter1m 7f 168yGoodHurdle2/14- 7He's A LatchicoJ: Tom QueallyT: Gary & Josh Moore263/61-Age 74/14/17/2

Fairly useful on the Flat and resumed winning ways in this sphere at Fontwell (17.7f, good) in April (all 3 hurdles wins gained at that course). However, absent since trailing in last of 10 in a handicap on the Flat later that month and his record when fresh doesn't inspire confidence.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosWindsor1m 2fGood to FirmFlat10/10Fontwell Park2m 1f 162yGood (Good to Soft in places)Hurdle1/9Newbury2m 69yGood to Soft (Good in places)Hurdle6/9Fontwell Park2m 1f 162yHeavyHurdle3/5Fontwell Park2m 1f 162yHeavyHurdle6/9- 5CaelanJ: K. Fair dual winner on the Flat (stays 11f) who settled better tried in a hood and showed improved form to get off the mark over hurdles in 14-runner Worcester maiden (2m, soft) in September. However, jumping left him down on subsequent handicap bow at Wetherby and will need to be more slick here.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosWetherby2mGoodHurdle5/5Worcester2mGood to SoftHurdle1/14Stratford-on-avon2m 70yGood (Good to Firm in places)Hurdle5/12Uttoxeter1m 7f 168yGoodHurdle4/10Chelmsford City1m 2fStandardFlat7/8- 6FourtownsJ: James BestT: Sarah Humphrey20-6123Age 612/110/111/1

Back to his best with a smooth-travelling success at Fontwell (17.7f, good to firm) on second start for new yard. Placed both subsequent starts and, still on a fair mark, he has to enter calculations.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosPlumpton1m 7f 195yGood (Good to Soft in places)Hurdle3/7Stratford-on-avon2m 2f 148yGood (Good to Firm in places)Hurdle2/6Fontwell Park2m 1f 162yGood (Good to Soft in places)Hurdle1/7Warwick2m 3fGoodHurdle6/9Windsor2m 4fGood to Soft (Soft in places)Hurdle10/13- 2Castel GandolfoJ: J. Winner of 2024 Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen off this mark and back on the scoresheet when toughing it out in a small-field handicap there in June. However, that effort is bookmarked by a number of far less encouraging ones and Kingston Sunflower is probably the stable No 1.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosMarket Rasen2m 125yGoodHurdle11/12Worcester2m 4fGood (Good to Soft in places)Hurdle8/8Cartmel2m 1f 46yGoodHurdle8/9Market Rasen2m 125yGoodHurdle8/14Market Rasen2m 125yGoodHurdle1/4- 3Belvedere BlastJ: Robert DunneT: Adrian Keatley-247165Age 716/112/114/1

Benefited from the stiffer test of stamina when resuming winning ways at Market Rasen (23f, good) in August. Below that level both starts since, though, and this drop back in trip is of dubious benefit.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosNewcastle2m 7f 149yGood (Good to Firm in places)Hurdle5/7Southwell2m 4f 88yGoodHurdle6/7Market Rasen2m 7f 16yGoodHurdle1/11Stratford-on-avon2m 6f 7yGood to Firm (Good in places)Hurdle7/8Hexham2m 7f 63yGood (Good to Soft in places)Hurdle4/5
