Going: Good to Soft
Heltenham
If HELTENHAM's recent wind operation helps precipitate a return to form he will surely go close off this reduced mark. Indeed, his wide-margin Perth success during the spring was gained off just a 2 lb lower mark and he is now 8 lb better off with Twinjets, compared to when beaten around 12 lengths into third by that rival at Fontwell last month. Twinjets is greatly respected nonetheless and rates the main danger ahead of the progressive Filanderer and American Mike.

Ended last term on the up over fences, readily completing a hat-trick in 7-runner handicap at Ffos Las (19.4f, good to soft) in April. Picked up where he left off by making it 4 in a row over the same C&D on return last month and he's impossible to rule out, for all that this is tougher.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosFfos Las2m 3f 83ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/8Ffos Las2m 3f 83yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase1/7Wincanton2m 4f 35yHeavyChase1/6Market Rasen2m 3f 34yGoodChase1/8Fontwell Park2m 3f 104yGoodChaseur/9- 4HeltenhamJ: Harry SkeltonT: Dan Skelton21-P833Age 810/310/33/1

Back to best when winning in good style at Perth in April and, though not quite in same form since, his last 2 efforts have been creditable. Edging back down the weights (now just 2 lb above mark off which he won at Perth) and will be a danger to all if recent wind op has had the desired effect.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosWetherby2m 3f 85ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase3/6Fontwell Park2m 3f 104yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase3/7Worcester2m 4fGood to SoftChase8/9Uttoxeter2m 4fGood (Good to Soft in places)Chasepu/8Perth2m 4f 20yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase1/6- 3TwinjetsJ: Harry CobdenT: Paul Nicholls4/52P-1Age 87/27/210/3

Solid second in C&D handicap last November and perfect start to this season when landing a 7-runner contest at Fontwell (19.5f, good) with the re-opposing Heltenham almost 12 lengths adrift in third. 4 lb rise fair enough and this 8-y-o is firmly in calculations.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosFontwell Park2m 3f 104yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase1/7Newbury2m 6f 93yGood to SoftChasepu/11Newbury2m 3f 187yGoodChase2/6Chepstow2m 7f 131yGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase5/11Doncaster2m 7f 214yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase4/6- 1TelepathiqueJ: Tom CannonT: Lucy Wadham11211-2Age 79/29/25/1

Boasts excellent strike rate, winning 4 out of 5 starts over fences last term, culminating in an all-the-way Huntingdon success in February. Solid second in a listed chase won by the progressive Paggane (winner again since) on return at Carlisle (2½m, good to soft) and she has to enter calculations.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCarlisle2m 3f 210yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase2/5Huntingdon2m 3f 189yGood to SoftChase1/4Fakenham2m 5f 44yGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/11Warwick2m 4fGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase2/8Warwick2m 54yGood to SoftChase1/7- 2American MikeJ: Sean BowenT: Olly Murphy56349-7Age 86/16/113/2

Smart chaser on his day for Gordon Elliott, winner of 3m Navan Grade 2 in February 2024. Failed to add to his tally last term, but posted a couple of solid efforts in defeat in strong handicaps and makes debut for new yard on an attractive mark.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosPunchestown2m 3f 58yYieldingHurdle7/10Cheltenham1m 7f 199yGood to SoftChase9/20Fairyhouse2m 1f 50ySoftChase4/12Fairyhouse2m 1fYielding (Good to Yielding in places)Chase3/10Navan3m 50yYielding (Good to Yielding in places)Chase6/18- 5Western GeneralJ: Brendan PowellT: Joe Tizzard3511P-7Age 79/19/110/1

Very useful on his day but overall record is patchy and he followed 2m wins at Wincanton and Hereford last spring with a poor run at Chepstow final run. Nearer last than first on return at Ascot and likely to come up short once more.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosAscot2m 172yGoodChase7/10Chepstow2m 3f 98yGood (Good to Soft in places )Chasepu/9Hereford2m 8yGoodChase1/5Wincanton1m 7f 149ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/6Exeter2m 3f 48ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase5/5- Non-Runners

Better than ever at Auteuil last autumn, winning a listed handicap hurdle and handicap chase. Should come on for his reappearance second in 3-runner C&D handicap on debut for new yard this month, but he was comprehensively outpointed by the winner that day and some of the others are more appealing.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosNewbury2m 3f 187yGood (Good to Firm in places)Chase2/3Ascot2m 167yGoodChase6/8Auteuil2m 2f 86yHeavyChase1/13Auteuil2m 3f 85yHeavyHurdle1/16Compiegne2m 4f 84ySoftChase6/7
