Founded in 1878, Everton Football Club is one of the oldest and most storied teams in the world. As a founding member and ever-present of the Premier League, the Toffees have long been able to lure in fans from far and wide.
While the Blues have flirted with relegation in recent years, and certainly aren’t entirely clear of the relegation battle in the Premier League odds, Everton are one of just six teams to never drop from the Premier League.
Throw in their 15 major trophies, and it’s easy to see the historic appeal of joining Evertonians each week. This has clearly rubbed off on some famous faces from around the world, including Hollywoods icon and a music legend.
Sir Paul McCartney
Often brought up in the conversation of the greatest musicians to ever take to a stage, Sir Paul McCartney and his band, the Beatles, have long been tied to the city of Liverpool.
Many might assume that McCartney was one of the famous fans of Liverpool. However, thanks to his family’s allegiances, he joined the Toffees contingent.
That said, the musician has professed that his friendship with Kenny Dalglish has been enough to sway him at times. In 2008, it was even reported that he said, “I am just going to support them both,” which will rightly raise some eyebrows.
Dame Judi Dench
She may have been born in Yorkshire and call Surrey her home, but the 90-year-old entertainment legend Dame Judi Dench has long been hoping that Everton make good on their football betting lines each week.
A star of stage and screen, Dench’s fandom has found her involved with many Everton events and occasions, including the club’s more charitable pursuits.
In 2012, she became an honorary patron of Everton in the Community. The leading sports charity continues to fund and run initiatives in the local area and wins awards for the efforts that Dench backs.
Sylvester Stallone
Of all of the most famous celebrity football fans, Sylvester Stallone has to be among the very biggest. The writer and star of Rocky may hail from New York City, but his football affections reside in Merseyside.
The story goes that Stallone was once invited to a game at Goodison Park by Robert Earl, the former club director, and was immediately won over. Later, he’d play a big part in bringing Hollywood to the stadium.
A key part of making the spin-off film series Creed come to life, Stallone helped to enable its filming at Goodison Park, where a certain local professional boxer would take on Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed in the grand finale.
Jodie Comer
A fully-fledged star of TV and film these days, Jodie Comer’s profile has surged since her part in the series Killing Eve on BBC Three and BBC America.
Since, the award-winning actress has appeared in Help, The Last Duel, and The End We Start From, and all while wanting Everton to win the league more than hoping to land an Oscar.
Well, that’s at least what she told The Guardian in 2024. When asked if she’d rather win the Oscar or see Everton go all the way, she said, “I think I have to say winning the league.”
Tony Bellew
A WBC World cruiserweight champion and heavyweight conqueror of David Haye twice, Tony Bellew always showcased his love of Everton FC.
In fact, to win the vacant WBC title in 2015 against Ilunga Makabu, he managed to get the bout to take place at Goodison Park. Outside of this, he’d often wear gear featuring the Everton badge on his ringwalks and during bouts.
The boxer amassed quite the net worth through his boxing outings, and now that he has more time on his hands, he can spend more of it at the club. He recently featured alongside Peter Reid in saying goodbye to Goodison Park.
