Despite being one of three tournament hosts, the United States aren’t among sports betting favourites to win this summer’s World Cup. The U.S. have short football betting odds to reach the knockout phase, but a deep run would be a major surprise.

The Stars and Stripes have only been beyond the round of 16 once since 1930. Expectations are high heading into the 2026 edition, however, after finishing runners-up in the 2025 Gold Cup.

Drawn in Group D with Paraguay, Australia and Turkey, the United States will be quietly confident of advancing past the group stages and soccer fans will be hoping for a long run in the tournament.

What is the average salary for USA players?

USA players receive salaries ranging from $500,000 up to several million. They are not explicitly paid for representing their country, but there are bonuses for being called into training camps, appearing in matches, and going on tournament runs.

Earnings increase markedly in tournament years. The CBA dictates that the players receive a share of any prize money earned through tournament results.

Who are the top earning players for USA?

Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic, representing Juventus and Milan, respectively, are the highest-earning players in the USMNT’s World Cup squad.

Pulisic is reportedly on around £90,000 per week. McKennie’s weekly wages are in the £80-90,000 range at Juventus.

How much does the USA manager earn?

Mauricio Pochettino’s salary is $6 million. He is the highest-paid manager in USMNT history, with much of that figure being subsidised by external sources, including from hedge fund manager Ken Griffin.

Very few national team managers earn as much per year as Pochettino. It’s a high-pressure job in a home tournament, with the Argentine’s decisions likely to have a significant impact on live betting.
